It's so sad when you discover that the average security of a Porn site is way better than most Government sites, even those in the US and Europe.
But it's so painfully true. I see this every day as more compromised government websites pass in front of me. But thinking about it, it's only natural. Just compare the admin on both side and what they are protecting and you will come to the conclusion that this is inevitable!
It's likely that the admin of a Porn site is actually monetizing from his property. They're making money and therefore highly motivated to keep their cash cow, up and running. For that they would take every possible precaution because of the type of merchandise they have, they are also likely to have just about every possible attack known to man.
While the .gov domain appears intimidating. It's usually run by a very unmotivated, underpaid government employee who really really, doesn't give a damn! Worse, he's usually not equipped, or experienced enough for the task. In third world countries he probably found this easy job so that he can sleep all day thanks mostly to the influence of his extended family which probably deprived a well deserving and possibly motivated computer specialist from occupying that spot.
But that's not the only reason, sometimes all the credentials that this government employee have is a couple of classes from 1970 or a training course in some 3rd grade web training facility that barely skimmed the edges of these very serious matters.
No one is immune, including the multimillion dollar devours in the e-government invested in Emirates. You would think, these folks got it pretty bolted down. But, nope, not by a long shot.
Of course the lack of a recognized system of accountability in most governments multiplies this issue, although, I wouldn't really blame the employee. More like, blame the management for setting such an employee for failure.
It might be a dream to see the day when government sites are "as secure as porn sites". After all, it's all about property that is being protected. Apparently, people's data and private information isn't as important as the rear end of a cheap model posing for a 10th grade obscure website
Memories....
without a comprehensive approach to e-government online platforms will be vulernable to attacks invariably, we have websites for every other administration ,but no cenral cohersive strategy to deploy IT to build infrastructure for e-government to be of service to the citizens ,so yes the security is no better than the irrelevant content..sorry for taking this very seriously , but I am very interested in this subject :)
anyway , Qwaieder I have a tag for you :)
