It hasn't been many hours since Obama assumed presidency until he took the very first humane act contradicting the reign of terror that preceded him.

Obama will be signing 3 executive orders Tomorrow (that's Thursday) that in effect will shut down one of the darkest spots in the American history, Guantanamo bay.

This is to happen over the course of next year.

But not only that, the new orders go over the treatment of detainees and the use of Torture! A serious blow to Jack Bauer and other Bush era, torture loving, sadistic blood suckers.

This is a huge win for Civil liberties, values that the US have advocated for so long. Only to be oppressed and dismantled by the reign of Bush and his absent hearted Chaney.

If this doesn't renew your faith in democracy, nothing will!

This new president is filling the hearts and minds with hope and resolve for peace. Not military victory..

Coming to think of it, a just and lasting peace, is the real victory. For it's not wars that make people great, it's peace

Bravo Mr President! Rest of the world leaders, take note!

Keep in mind that closing Guantanamo Bay Detention Center does not mean that the US will cease to detain terror suspects.  Most of the detainees will be transferred to other facilities, both in the US and abroad.  The executive orders also don't offer any NEW orders concerning torture and the treatment of detainees.  The "official" U.S. line has always been against the use of torture.  The new executive order will simply reiterate the requirement of all U.S. personnel to follow the U.S. Army Field manual while interrogating detainees, which prohibits threats, coercion, physical abuse, and torture.  But according to an Associated Press article, however, "the administration also is planning a study of more aggressive interrogation methods that could be added to the Army manual."

Dave said what's in my mind exactly, closing guantanamo is nothing like exposing guantanamo.
The people need to know what has been going there, how many are detained there and when exactly will they be either freed or given their rights of a fair trial.

It sounds nice, but they will just be dispersed to different facilities, where it will be more difficult to keep track of what's really being done to them. This allows Obama the maximum amount of "wiggle room." Although I heard that moonbat Congressman Jack Murtha wants all of the prisoners to be shipped to his home district of Western Pennsylvania. I can imagine how well THAT will go down with the locals. Then again, any escapees will be quickly hunted down by those same armed locals. ;-)

You know, I'm feeling too much negativity about Obama. The guy is making a huge change what more are people expecting!!? Everyone is being skeptic, negative and betting on him failing all the people who placed hopes on him
For me, Obama is the brightest spot in the latest American history. For me that is enough to see how much value he has brought. He's trail blazing

Obama "has sent 17,000 more troops to Afganistan."
