The official story is that Israel is using Apache Helicopters, and F16 jets to fight the people of Gaza. When in fact a Phantom from the 70's would have been just as effective
In fact, a decommissioned world war II fighter/bomber would do..
In fact, a World War I biplane would have done the job as well. It's a fight against people who don't have any means of defending themselves.
Speaking of latest technologies against Gaza, did you know that the very first Tanks in the world were used against the Othman Empire in a battle in Gaza? (And the Ottomans were winning until they were later betrayed by the Arabs, and let's not name names)
Aljazeera is doing a phenomenal job covering the news but their "military consultants" ...emm I don't know!
First, most of the bombing I've seen came from F15 fighter/bombers and not F16. In fact, F15 is superior to F16 in almost every way, except maneuverability, which Israel don't need at all since they is hardly ANY resistance in the air.
F16s are better suited to fight Dogfights. As in fight other planes. Like in the unlikely case someone who has an actual Air force attacks.
Most of the flashes you see in the air, are flares and not real bombs. They're used to confuse any heat seeking missile (had there been any) as a counter measure. But they give the illusion that they're bombing, and can possibly draw some of the people who are hiding out to try to shoot down the fighter. However, these flares CAN start fires, so can matches.
By the way, white phosphorus is also expected to be used as a counter measure. To cover-up the visual but more importantly the heat signature. But Apparently, Israel is using it as a factor of "Shock and Awe" since it's very bright, causes a lot of harm. But it's not as effective as a C4 filled bomb...
But it's considerably cheaper!
What white phosphorus bombs tell you is that Israeli's don't respect human life. They don't care that the clouds get blown away over other civilians. But most importantly they KNOW that the resistance has NOTHING to fight back with. No gear.. nothing. Just some homemade low yield explosive devices.
It's really sad!
Anyway, If anyone is reading this from Gaza, keep a bucket of water with baking soda next to it. If you suspect a prosperous bomb or gas. Dump the baking soda (or baking powder) in the water, and cover some towels with it. Breath through them. You can also use these towels to stop any still flaming parts.
And if you have not heard the OTHER side of the story, here's a link to a LIVE STREAM where you can watch continuous coverage of what's REALLY going on in Gaza... Dedicated to Nizar

Memories....
The link didn't work for me, but is it streaming al-aqsa, al-jazeera, or al-whatchamacallit ?!
I have been watching Al-jazeera for god knows how long but I stopped doing so the last 2 or so years, probably because I lost the interest and didn't have the time to go through a one hour long news report just for updating myself on an event or two.
Israel keeps in mind that Arabs might attack them suddenly and they have to be prepared, although it is very very unlikely the possibility is still there.
I haven't seen white phosphorus used by any other armies, except as flares or as a component of a napalm bomb. I suppose they're thinking of it as a short-term land mine, a denial-of-territory weapon when it hits the ground and burns, without the land mine problem of unexploded ordnance later. It seems odd to me.
Yes, it is only a testimony to the brutality of the Israeli war machine that they are pushing with (almost) the full force of an advanced military to fight against a mostly unarmed civilian population.
By the way, a small correction: Tanks were first used in the Battle of Cambrai and not in Gaza. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cambrai_(1917)
Abu Samra, hope all is well with you bro., check this out and please share:

Za3tar,
Actually, it was in the Second Battle of Gaza in April 1917 but they were still bulky and primitive. The British also used poisnous gas.
It was full 7 months before the battle of Cambrai.. The mechanized divisions ended up sinking in the loose sands of the desert and provided little help
I guess, you need to be careful of the sources :) Wikipedia isn't always right you know
It makes me sick right to the pit of my stomach!
You know, I've talked about this subject with nearly everyone I know & it's just getting too much to endure. Too many people aren't seeing the real picture, not because they can't switch on to AlJazeera, it's simply because they believe there's a lot more to life than watching people suffer.
Anyways, it's an unequal equation, the advantage goes to Israel as you said and we're just watching. I wish I could do something, ANYTHING to help. I'm willing to go to Gaza and just let people open their hearts to me, I wish I could hug a suffering little child over there. I wish things would just end, not like they started before no, I want things to end as in THE WAR, the one we've all been awaiting, the end of time!
Sorry I wrote so much.
Peace, 7ala.
BTW, nice blog, your posts are really nice!
Hi Qwaider, as much as I like to talk about jet fighters and i was wondering if Israel would demand F-22 from USA to face Gaza war, and as i would like the day to come when we have our own ArabFigher, knowing that we already have what it needs(else than commitment) to make it a reality! But well my comment is about the PR war Israel is heavily launching know! this is a war we are all part of it, you remember this site http://www.israel-vs-palestine.com/gz/?home where the percentage of supporting Palestine reached 64% , now its 49% , i watched it going down dramatically, as you can see in the statistics the extreme high number of US voters supporting Israel, this all done by campaign organized by Isralis, http://jta.org/news/article/2009/01/13/1002226/new-forms-of-activism-mingle-with-old-as-jews-defend-israel-on-gaza
Now cant we all together at least win the PR war over Israel? That voting site accepts multi voting with 2 hours span. and i know that Arabs are fan of votings! Cant we run a campaign in the Arab world for it? the voting site is just an example of many other fronts for the PR war. Also im sure we dont need to discuss Gaza conflict between each other as much as we need to show our story to the world when ever possible, while its always better to give our cause a legitimate facts than shouting we are right, the world is now watching more than ever before, and now the public opinion can relatively bring its benefit on either sides.
Qwaider,
I don't trust Wikipedia blindly, but i was skeptical that the first introduction of a major combat vehicle would not be in the major battle front but rather in an offshoot.
Anyway, it turns out we are both wrong :-). The first modern tank was actually used in the Battle of Somme in 1916. Here are some links for that:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Somme#Debut_of_the_tank

I think the second battle of Gaza was the first time the tank was used in the region. It is interesting to know about it, i've never heard of it before. Thanks for the info.
White Phosphorous and Dense Inert Metal Explosives: Is Israel Using Banned and Experimental Munitions in Gaza?
Israel is coming under increasing criticism for its possible use of banned and experimental munitions. Human Rights Watch has accused Israel of illegally firing white phosphorous, which causes horrific burns if it comes in contact with the skin, over crowded refugee camps in Gaza. Medics and human rights groups are also reporting that they are seeing injuries distinctive of another controversial weapon, Dense Inert Metal Explosive, known as DIME, that was designed by the US Air Force in 2006. Those struck by the weapon who survive suffer severe mutilations and internal injuries. We go to the Gaza border to speak with Marc Garlasco of Human Rights Watch and to Norway to speak with Dr. Mads Gilbert, who just returned from the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. He says Gaza is "truly a scene from Dante’s Inferno."...
