Stubbornness!

Today, I witnessed a very weird incident. The voices of two colleagues were so loud that I thought I would go to their office and see what was going on. I expected the debate regarding what's going on in Gaza must be driving tensions very high. In fact, in internal emails between employees, I've witnessed heated and very violent debates in which many threatened to resort to HR to resolve the issues.

I pulled my mind back from the hellish conditions in Gaza that have invaded every brain cell in my mind and every fiber in my existence.

After a quick round of shushing everyone, I started exclaiming what was going on.

Turns out, one of my colleague (a former student of mine), was fiercely defending his argument about a certain idea of an algorithm that we developed and he studied. He knew it by heart but was a bit rusty on latest advancements we made.

I was surprised, my former student believed in the theory way more than I myself did. In fact, we proved that it wasn't a good idea a while ago. Yet, he remained unrelenting and refused to believe. Even reasoned certain possibilities that makes the algorithm actually work right.

I excused myself to my next meeting, but I just couldn't brush the thought out of my mind. Does every teacher suffer from the same problem?

But most disturbingly, did prophets? [Not calling myself one, or remotely hinting at it in anyway]

Can't judge since I don't have (and wouldn't understand if I did) the details, but to me a good student is not one who takes every word their teacher says as gospel, but one that tries to think for themselves, particularly since you mentioned he had an idea for making it work right. Having said that there limits to how far a student should swim around their teacher's idea until they can do it alone so to speak.
