It's hard to have jolly thoughts when our brothers and sisters are suffering and dying elsewhere. But if there is one thing we can carry over from one year to the next. It would be hope
I was on a telephone call with my family where they were all sitting warmly at grandparents' house (my immediate parents), they were stressed out about the news. They still found the time to sit together, and share some hopes for a better year ahead.
2008 was a good year for me, relatively speaking. I found my soul mate and got married to her, got a great new job among other great things that happened to me.
But all these wonderful personal achievements were overshadowed by a number of disappointments and not very happy occasions. For example, I lost a small fortune in the stock market crash, but have no regrets.
You might not know this but this article is my article number 1501. I wanted to share with my wonderful readers my 1500 mark. But, out of considerations to what's going on. I decided it wasn't the time or the place, it's better to let this one slip. There will be better, happier occasions.
I think many people are upset that many of the new year celebrations have been cancelled, many doubt that this has any significance over the Gaza issue. But I think there's nothing wrong in showing a little sympathy and being considerate. towards the people who are suffering. Celebrations simply have no taste when part of your body is dripping with tears, blood and pain.
I started creating a little application that counts the number of casualties. I was almost done when I stopped myself and thought. I would rather be the score-keeper of better things than casualties. Things are bleak as as, without having to remind myself of that every time I look at my screen.
We're planning to enjoy the new year celebrations cuddled up in our car with a big pot of hot cocoa under the space needle in downtown Seattle. Staying warm while we watch the fireworks, drink cocoa and listen to Um Kulthoum or whatever Mazaj FM has on at that time. That's about it.. No big celebrations ..
So wishing everyone a happier new year, may all your dreams come true and may you and your families continue to be safe, healthy and happy. Especially our family under occupation and less fortunate people around the globe. May 2009 bring peace, stability and prosperity where it's needed most. And may you and yours have a wonderful new year
Memories....
We stayed at home for new years, my mom baked a wonderful cake, my sister got us some goodies, and it was the first new years with the whole family together in a couple of decades so it was really worth it.
