Only in Jordan you have adult people struggling with concepts as rudimentary and as simple as Corruption.
Only in Jordan, you have people marvelling at wasta and even DEFENDING it, what a disappointment!
Jad and Nas have teamed up to defend the ugly face of Jordanian corruption, our "promising" youth are blaming EVERYTHING but the real cause of the issue
Corruption is only viewed as "good" by those who are corrupt themselves. Or benefiting from corruption. In other words, CORRUPT. People who are looking at the status quo and wanting it to stay the same are only benefiting from it. That's all
Disclaimer:
This is not directed at Jad or Nas in particular. This is directed at corruption. Jad and Nas are presenting an argument that is in support of corruption.
Also, this in NO WAY means that Jad or Nas are corrupt. Or involved in, facilitating, benefiting, or enabling corruption in any way shape or form.
I'm Generalizing, to make this impersonal, these are universally known and agreed upon moral values
Corruption is one of those concepts that don't need a lot of explanation, except if you were Jordanian in Jordan Benefiting from the corruption of the system. At that point you would die to protect such corruption even at the expense of your own country or your own integrity
I can't express my level of disappointed. When basic and very simple moral concepts are having a hard time convincing the "promising" youth of Jordan. This is as bad as, if not worse, defending slavery, racism, gender inequality, torture, or honor killings
Let's take an issue that is similar to Wasta. It has benefits and disadvantages. But when viewed in the light of HUMAN conscious, rights and morals, it becomes clear as day how it's exploitative, evil and bad. I'll give two examples:
Slavery:
Yes, sure, it's really beneficial for the owners. They have people working for them for free, and the results can not be any better. But that comes at an expense. If someone is not old enough to understand the consequence of something. I doubt they would be able to understand why Slavery is so bad
Torture:
Yes, it's a good way to MAKE people say whatever you want, and do whatever you want. It's universally considered evil, inhuman and the results are RARELY if EVER accurate. Yet, you will find people supporting it, hailing it as the best thing in the world
You know folks, there are certain things in this world that don't require a PHd to see. Some realities need to be changed. We don't have to physically get tortured to know it's ugly, evil and bad. As for Wasta, the same applies. You don't have to be a beneficiary or directly affected by it to know and understand how it's evil.
Sometimes, people are so sucked into reality that they no longer know, feel, or understand the err of their ways. That's true for people committing Honor killings in Jordan, and that's true for the corrupt people who are benefiting from the system under the name of Wasta, exploiting their positions, family names and connections to gain advantage and leverage over other people (who may or may not be honest citizens, but that's not the rule)
When we talk about these matters we need to attack these issues. In the absence of Law or guidelines that directly prohibits Wasta, we need to mobilize and FORCE the voice of the silent masses onto the legislator, parliament and the government. This is A RIGHT people, Love your country, and get rid of our Cancer. The thing that bogs ALL OF US down. And keeps us in the dark ages. (And I'm willing to bet that THERE IS A LAW), but Wasta is stopping it from being effective. In effect, WASTA is preempting our constitution
If I have any taste left in my mouth after writing this, it's bitterness of disappointment over our promising youth. But I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful that change WILL come, and I hope that we all take a long and deep look at our situation and look at HOW we can rid ourselves from this epidemic. Instead of justifying how it's good like many debated how the earth was flat
Memories....
It's hard, and without hope might be impossible. But, I'm hopeful in the future. I'm hopeful in Change that will bring more social equality and prosperity to ALL instead of the select few.
This challenge is huge, but we can do it! If we really believe in it.. Yes we can!

An example of supporting something without thinking it's moral: if there was a vote on legalizing abortion, I'd vote to legalize it, but if there was a vote on whether abortion is moral, I'd vote against it because it so obviously is not moral. At its most basic abortion is a form of murder even if not as bad as murdering someone that has been "born".
Proud Salti, Sorry I removed your comment. I have restored -part of- it. I thought, it was a drive-by
I thought this article is very interesting:
"I find there is justice in the Islamic movement," Mr. Fawaz [sophomore at U of Jordan] said one day as he walked beneath the towering cypress trees at Jordan University. "I can express myself. There is no wasta needed."
