You can never -really- quit smoking!

It's been 22 months since I've quit smoking. 22 Months and I didn't even have a single drag of a cigarette. 22 months without a single micro-gram of nicotine, and you know what? I STILL have cravings for it.

Quitting smoking has got to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. It's just one of those things that no matter what you do, it's still somewhere in the back of your mind pulsating like a neon flash light.

Truth is, I get these urges from time to time to just grab a box of my favorite brand, and just chain smoke it ALL. Especially when I see people smoking, or smell that wonderful second hand first drag of a cigarette! Wonderful. It's like lacing your lungs with velvety arsenic but asking for more.

Smoking, one of the nastiest habits I picked up on the -hopefully- long path of life, and one of the hardest to quit. That is if you can quit.

Does it occur to you to think what would cause people to suffer below freezing temperatures just to have a few puffs of their favorite poison? I know it's addiction but there's a lot that goes into it. Many smokers are well aware of the dangers, and continue to indulge in this "sin". If anyone think the health side -alone- would persuade someone to quit, they would be very surprised.

The way I quit smoking is exactly like the way I do many things in my life, I "decided" to quit smoking. Not because I hate it, not because of the health risks, not for familial pressure, but because I wanted to. That is the only advice I can give people who want to quit (I managed to help one guy so far). They don't necessarily need to HATE smoking for them to stop. I still ADORE smoking. But I decided that I wouldn't let it run my life, or define who I am. I decided to quit for many reasons. To each person their own. But it's the will that matters

My other advice is for people to NEVER try it in the first place. Don't do it. Once you're in you IN, and there is NO WAY OUT.

If you ever smoked, you would know what I'm talking about. If you never did, don't think that people can really quit that easily. It's one form of addiction that is really tough to break.

Quit smoking because you really want to break this habit from defining you. From taking over your life. From forcing you to look for ashtrays before you look for a seat. From forcing you to stick out in the cold for a few precious puffs. From making you hang out with people you don't even know -or respect- just to have few precious puffs.

Oh, and quit smoking for your health. You know, that's important too

Ohh i think quitting this ugly habit is one of the greatest decisions u've ever taken in yr whole life .. u know , first of all RABNA said "wla twdoo b2ydekom 2ela el tahlloka" and for sure RABNA said this for a reason , an important reason ..

the second thing is im with u , for the ones who want 2 quit they must decide and just quit without trying coz it will never be a nice journey its gonna be hard , really , BUT if u took the decision and have enough love for RABNA, yr family and yr self u will do it..
think of the ppl who did it already , r they stronger ? less addicted or what ?? its only a matter of believing ,, so dont wait just initiate :)

I have quit smoking for at least two months now, but is still find it hard not to smoke, I do smoke a cigarette every other week when I am out with my friends just for the sake of it, I know it's stupid but it is almost impossible to resist it.

    I quit quitting.
Good for you! Keep it up.
They do say "once a smoker always a smoker". From what people say you might always crave it, but it will become easier to resist the temptation.
    Good Luck!

I quit smoking two weeks ago.  It's definitely not easy, and I have definitely screwed up a few times.  It's getting easier, but I MISS it.  I LOVE smoking.  But I knew I needed to quit and I wanted to quit.  So I did.  One thing I will not miss is awkward conversations with strangers.  Thank you for mentioning that!

You know, faith can play a big role in quitting. But it's not the only reason

I wonder if Bella is cheating as well by doing the hookah.I quit cold turkey in one day,but I had the help of pregnancy and what goes with that. Now, I have no problem and am never tempted, but I still just love the smell of cigarettes as it brings back the pleasure of doing it and I remember it well especially with a glss of sweet Bacardi rum and Coke in the left hand, and that's enough for me.Yayy!Like Bella likes to say.I have won a great victory where that is concerned. Now on to good looking guys, there is where my weakness lies.

Qwaider, you can do it,if I could,so can you.More power to you!You will gain strength as the battle goes on.Remember, every day you will get a little stronger where your weakness is concerned,if you can just withstand the temptation that day. So,if you can narrow it down, and just take it one day at a time,it want be long till you can draw the curtains on nicotine addiction all together.Believe me,I know the hardship that you are going through,I was a 1 pack a day slave at 18.

I'll share the tools that helped me,they are as follows:1.My ex telling me to quit constantly and calling cigs cancer sticks.2.His aunt could not tolarate smoking and I saw that I could survive to be without cigarettes around her, even on long car trips,it surprized.3.I had a nicotine fit while whitwater rafting with his family, that I'll never live down.3.Baby
4.Chewing gum.All in all it was my hero husband that was GOD used to help me,as I'm so stubborn and I always want my own way by nature.Chewin gum is another addiction that I have beaten. Now,isn't that awsome! But getting tickled I'll never beat, under my armpits.Hehehe! That can be quite dangerous as one tends to laugh uncontrollably and it can get out of hand.

I meant to say that GOD used my hero husband to help me quit smoking.GOD can use anyone and anything to help us flush our bad habits and addictions down the toilet.HE know us better than we know ourselves. So,I ask HIM for help with my addictions. And HE does it in such a cool way.I for one want to get rid of all my addiction and I want to become strong not weak as water,I'm tired of it.

Wallahi it is great that you managed to stop for such a long time. With my best wishes for a continuous triumph over it.
been over 3 years for me, and i still crave it sometimes.. especially when i hear that 'ssssss' sound when one lights a ciggi around me.. but i know its no good, i cant stand its smell anymore and i dont think i wud love to smell it my breath again..

    good job Q!
I did try smoking, and no I didn't do it because of peer pressure. I did it alone, in secret, behind our house, I tried half a dozen different brands. Then I decided I'd never touch it again, and I still dont' understand why anyone would like it. Likewise for beer which I also tried and hated.

Hmmm, I had thought even a smokers hate second hand smoke, I guess not.

I had heard that if you quit something for 3 months, then you're no longer addicted, but I'm not sure I believe it. I have my own food addiction to work on, and the problem is I can't just stop eating all together like a smoker can.

the pharmacist told me about a new drug called "chantix" supposedly will stop those cravings...i tried with hubby to fill it in, he says he can quit on his own, when he wants to....so far he didnot....i wish he could...the other day, my son found a flier about quitting using hypnosis, and he grapped it with joy, stating, i will give it to papa so that he can quit smoking...i dont want him to die...how sweet...ofcourse hubby never quit so far...still waiting and he asks for my support to do so...how if i donto even smoke in the first place, and yeah donot let him smoke int he house....
smoking is bad....and i guess u know that for sure...
I was never a smoker, I hated the smell of it and how I smell after sitting with people who do.. but once I tried the menthol cigaretts I was hooked... I just loved them.. it started one every week or so, then one everyday, until I started smoking 6 or 7 everyday.. and yet only menthols, I couldnt stand the normal ones..
One day I decided that the pack that I bought was going to be my last, and I am happy to say that that was 6 months ago... I feel healthier, cleaner, and fresher and yet I crave one almost everyday...

There is an acupoint on the ear, which when stimulated is supposed to help the craving for cigarettes. It is at the top of the ear just under the fold. Do this each time you want a cigarette.
