    A moment, made my day...

Today, as I was minding my own business, I received something that I was expecting for a while, I opened it and started exploring it. Then I dug deeper and deeper inside it to see some of it's properties.

I came to a part where I stood there, in disbelief, in complete shock. It was something that I have created my self 7 years ago. I remember the exact words of my manager at the time when I finished this. He said, "Your stupid tool" while we were in a meeting.

Little did he know that "My stupid tool" have outlived him!

I created a tool to make my life easier at that time. But being the helper kind of person that I am, I decided to make it as generic as I can. Then I thought why don't I productive this and release it for the rest of the world to use. And I did ...

Even though my life got easier using that tool, and everything worked more efficiently. I never got anything good because of it. My manager, never said anything good about it. My efforts was never recognized. I might have even been reprimanded for wasting my time on "My stupid tool". I just can't explain well enough how many countless other projects with millions of human hours, just dropped off the face of the planet

Things changed... The world changed... Roles changed... and 8 years later, I look at a product only to discover people, thousands of people, taking advantage of my work. Making their life, and their jobs easier.

I couldn't have been any prouder!

The moral(s) of the story are:

    1. Don't let people put you down
    2. Never underestimate your work, despite the critics
    3. If you have a stupid manager, don't lose your focus or self confidence
    4. Nothing ever stays the same
    5. One man's trash, is another man's treasure
    6. Take pride in your work
    7. Remember that what you are making today, might have a huge impact on people tomorrow
    8. Design well, and your product will outlast you, your manager and his stupid words and even your whole team and organization
    9. Any solution for your pain, is potentially a solution for other people's pain. Either help them with it, or help yourself by selling it to them

A tool is a little application that helps you do a specific task. Hammer is a tool, but on it's own wouldn't help you finish a house
This is similar to tools in programming
ah, bass what is this tool exactly? so that next time we run into it we smirk and remember you :)
