It's no secret that every woman on the face of this planet has some insecurity regarding the way she looks. She can be the pretties woman on the face of this planet, and has the perfect look, youth and body, yet still be insecure about the way she looks.

Feeding off these insecurities, every possible beauty commercial you can think of. But none of them is uglier than Victoria's secrets. With women running around with their plump bosoms barely covered by the most revealing bras. You can't stop yourself from wondering, (a) How can men be content with the average woman? but worse (b) How can women feel any level of confidence when men are indulged in views of such women who apparently have no shame or problem in revealing most of their bodies to millions watching

I guess, playing on people's insecurities isn't a new thing. Promising that a person would look sexy like the model in the commercial is also not new. But what is new is the level the models are revealing from their bodies! I don't view this as disgusting or anything. But it's just plain too much!

We don't walk around the malls looking at women in their undergarments. Nor do we value the woman by her cup size or how sexy her bra is. So why are we continuously reminded of all these insane amount of flesh and skin and on a constantly?

I think Victoria Secret commercials have succeeded in further commercialization and merchandising the woman's body. With millions upon millions of women following these demeaning trends like cattle.

We should all say NO to such degradation and objectification of women.

Why can't we have a bra commercial that shows how smart, successful and well educated women are comfortable in their product? Or now suitable it is to go with their business casual attire? Instead of 18 year old slutty -angels- giving advice on how to feel even cheaper.

Yup, all that is true and it is way too sad, a vicious cycle. I think a poor economy will take care it, tho. The plastic surgery to acquire the contents to fill such bras is way down, and $75 bras will soon follow as unnecessary luxury items. I don't shop there.

third wave feminism would call it, embrace your femininity and sexuality, which for me is no feminism at all...the objectification of the female body is the disgusting part, and females tend to totally buy into it, sadly!

Kinzi, you are kidding me $75.00 for a bra?You mean to tell me that the women think that they will look like Victoria Secret models if they wear them?Is that why they will pay that much for these bras?If that is the fact, then they must be watching their men's eyes popping out as they pay their full attention to the fashion shows. If the wives would put on their own fashion shows at the same time as these shows are on,then there might be quite a drop in the amount of viewers. As well, like you said Kinzi there will be a drop in the sales of such unneccesery luxury items as these overprized bras, ust like Starbucks coffee that does not taste as good as my own, when you order it straight up,so to speak, steaming hot, black and bold like I like it.

I do understand about the wives being busy, but they need to start treating their men like the oriental women do.Men love to be pampered by sweet, gentle beautiful women.Even I love the attention I get in the orient.

oh yeah .. it is christmas time ... so it must be the victoria secret "fashion show". .. but yeah.. companies like victoria secret thrive on superficiality. Actually, this is promoted very much on TV and in the movies. If you don't have a pretty face, you are not on cable air!

Krystal, I did check out a VS once when I found out some of their stuff was made in Jordan (a bunch of us wanted to go dumpster diving at the factory!). It was a half price sale, and there were bras for $75. Choke.

I totally agree that Western women need to learn a thiing or two from oriental women. One, don't show the whole world what is meant just for hubby. Secondly, well, I'll stop there. You said it. Careful sister, remember not to awaken love before it's time. :)
You should have posted an example of the commercial that prompted this post.

"How can men be content with the average woman?"
<------ most men aren't that selective, if it has breasts....

"How can women feel any level of confidence when men are indulged in views of such women who apparently have no shame ?"
<--------- That's a bit of a contradiction. you could say those women who have no shame actually have confidence :)

They do make nice pjs though :-).
It's all about being selective.  You can choose to think so and you can choose to focus on the more positive ads, media and ideas towards woman.  I do agree though that it becomes more difficult with time but smart women know the difference.

Yes, they do make nice pajamas.  As for lingerie, I think most men would prefer it be on the floor in about 2 minutes.  What?  It's true!

To be fair, however, Victoria Secret is just utilizing tactics that nearly every other company employs.  Want to be hip?  Walk around listening to an iPod.  Want to impress women/the boss/your peers?  Drive a BMW.  If we allowed ourselves to believe all the marketing lies that are being fed to us (and many of us do), we'd all be dead broke from buying the newest and best of everything in an attempt to be happy, popular, or good looking.

So what does Christmas have to do with Victory Secret Fashion Show 2008? And what do angels have to do with females slithering and slumping around on stage and posing seductivly for the cameras in a semi-nude state? Are they maybe dark angels?
