Just as the last few years have seen the rise of blogging as a serious contender to the more mainstream media, and winning the hearts and souls of people around the world, but also carving a place in popular culture from sitcoms to newspapers. The world Blog and Blogger have become almost as "Googling". Maybe not as mainstream as googling, but nevertheless it's there.

Blogging has broken into the social norms in ways "forums" could only dream about, which I'm afraid have come and gone without gaining any respect or credit.

But, what's the future for blogging? Just as we've seen the dawn of this amazing new medium, I guess there will come a time when people will look at bloggers as criminals, thrill seekers, liars, rumor spreaders and just about anything negative you can imagine.

But that's not enough, there are people who will try to mandate what a blogger should talk about. Either by force or by downplaying all other forms of blogging. Which in it's simplest definitions is a creative process like music composition, like painting. In fact, the most prevalent from of blogging is composition! A creative process

Career journalists are upset of blogging, governments are furious. Writers, authors and publishers have mixed emotions. Even the huge media outlets are worried about blogging displacing them as the major source news for people. Some have embraced it, some have downplayed it. But the worst of the worst is the bunch of people who either can't do it, or can't sustain it. The walk around, spewing their useless nonsense and putting down everyone in their wake

Some would even go as far as focusing on the kind of blogging you're doing. If you're reporting events then you're worthy, otherwise, you belong with the rest of the trash that talks about makeup, cooking, cars, music and movies to name a few.

What these kinds forget is that blogging isn't about ruminate what's being passed along in the media. There are places for politics, places for serious social issues and places for creativity and -call it meaningless- blabbering. No, I wasn't talking about the 500billion dollar a year industry in Hollywood, or the Music industry or even the video game industry.

There's nothing wrong with blogging for the softer matters in the life. The world will not stop to grief for Gaza (although maybe it should), the world is not always interested in prosecuting the lineage of corrupt officials in Jordan. The world doesn't give a damn about Husni Mobarak and violation of constitution in Egypt. The world doesn't give a damn about human rights violations for domestic workers in the Gulf states. Wall street is not going to crash because of an honor crime. Or a hundred!

There are things in the world that might not be our worst issues. That might not hold the solution for world hunger, global warming or alternative fuels...

But they're still important, and we as humans have always found ways to keep ourselves entertained. Even when we had wild animals chasing us into caves, and had to run far and wide to hunt for our food. We somehow managed to find time to learn how to make cave paintings.

We are human, our issues, go hand in hand with our creativity. We can't be one without the other. And bloggers, no matter how "shallow and stupid" you might think some are, are part of this human race that make this planet a little more hospitable

    Nice ode to blogging :-)

I only have a minor comment. I know you didn't mean it .. but i don't think "maybe" the world should grief for the human suffering in Gaza .. i think the mass punishment and suffering of humans deserves attention and action no matter where it happens. Not only Gaza, but in Africa, Asia, and any other place in the world.

Again, i know you didn't mean it that way .. but something az3ajny about this "maybe" ;-p

Wallahi I didn't mean it that it's not important, it's a figure of speech you know. "Maybe you should" is just the polite way of mandating something

Well said, Qwaider. There are as many different types of bloggers as their are humans, no two are alike, and it does provide a global link to others who share (and don't share) those interests.

Blogging is just new material for people to criticize. Once something new comes up bloggers will be forgotten.

In the meantime let's give them something to talk about!
I don't think mainstream news/media should be threatened. We cover niches that are too specialized for them, and (hopefully) can say the things they're not allowed to.
