This is one amazing French Ad, watch it first, then read the rest. You might not know French, but I guess the message is pretty clear in any language..

    Now, some thoughts ...

The Internet is a visitor into everyone's house. There's no one who is going to argue about the importance of freedom of speech. But what I would most certainly advocate is considerate, courteous, respectable and mature ideas and values that broadcast through our own little dot on the Internet we call blog.

Not too long ago, I was under fire for protesting the use of foul language on some of the Arabic blogs. While I don't really mind seeing people mention my name in the title of their articles, but it was such a weird contradiction to see that while it's pretty obvious that what I was trying to do was to help and serve the community and raise awareness... Not to cap and shut people up, but to help them understand that there are others online that don't need this.

The problem is that people thought that I am attacking personally, a mistake that most Arabs fall into. Because we're just simply not used to the idea that someone has an alternative angle on the same issue. We just drown in our own realizations and our own realities and completely shut our ears and brains to any external stimulation. "We're right", yeah, we're always right!

Focusing back on the main issue at hand, Internet Safety. Something no one seems to care about of pay attention to in ANY ARAB COUNTRY.

There are families online, there are children and minors who might be harmed and scarred for life by what they see, hear and read online. The issue is only going to get worse and worse. Unless every government agency, school, family and online organization mobilizes to combat the society wrecking effects.

We need to act now, we need to all take a stand against online abuse. We need to all educate ourselves and our families to the importance of these issues.

I call upon Queen Rania, to spearhead such an effort in Jordan. Suzan Mubark in Egypt and other intellectuals who care about women's rights, and children's protection around the Arab world all in their respective arenas. It's time to act, it's time to protect the society and the children of the harmful effects of the Internet. This is such an effort that is more important than [dis]honor killings, more important than FGM in developing countries. It affects every single home. It affects our future, and the future generations. Not that these issues are not important, they are. But this issue is as serious if not more.

So are we going to do anything about this?

The commercial is very funny, and so true at the same time.

I'm so glad I don't have children, so I don't have to worry about this. Is that selfish ?

No that's not selfish Hani, but eventually you will (or will understand the reason for concern)
There needs to be people who will stand up for the weak and protect the innocent. It's important.

I agree. I was pretty much scarred for life with the stuff I saw on the net as a youngster
