If I got a penny for every time I heard "I get something because my mother had it" I would probably have couple of bucks by now.

But, I've just had it with this... Women, YOU ARE NOT YOUR MOTHER, and the old idiom "turn the jar on it's mouth and the girl will end up like her mother" doesn't apply to genetics! Well, it applies to only half of your genetic code. The have that you inherit from your mother. But that's not the end of the story...

First I'm not a doctor, and I don't have a PHD in genetics. But, I was a good student, and from all those biology classes that I still remember and all my extracurricular reading I can tell you with great confidence. YOU are NOT your mother!

However, Males do inherit certain attributes from their father (and ONLY their father), the Y Gene! Now isn't that awesome?

The human genetic structure (which is that DNA code that you inherit from BOTH parents, with the exception of the Y chromosome in Men which they ONLY inherit from their father). This DNA is responsible for how your physical attributes (how you look, how your body behaves, how you gain fat n certain areas and not others, how your hair grows ...etc)

So ladies, if you're afraid that you're going to have a hard delivery, don't! For two reasons, (A) Science keeps making breakthroughs everyday. The epidural was probably a luxury 20 years ago, now it's "Standard procedure". And (b) YOU ARE NOT YOUR MOTHER, only half of your body behaves like your mother. The other half is "from a man"... Now think about that for a little bit.

Hopefully, one of the real medical doctors who actually read this blog can correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, just let me add one last thing.... Whining, Nagging, Gossiping and moodiness are definitely inherited from the mother! (who's the first smart person to tell me that those are behaviors that don't actually pass on to the next generation??)

It's not all about genetics i think that the lifestyle in a household and living with a mother will have an impression on a person (male or female). Biologically I don't know anything never liked biology and never studied it or took it :P

Ok granted about the genetics that 50% of your chromosomes comes from each parent. Also inheritance could go way back to your grandparents because some genes are dominant. So if her mom says "sitti alla yir7amha o emmi ma kan 3indhom taja3eed, fa inti ya binti ma r7 yitla3lik inshalla" it most likely could be true.. HAHA

BUT having a difficult labour could be a cause of many things, like no excersice at all during the pregenancy stage, but it has NOTHING to do with inheritance. So your right!!

    I hope I don't get dad's receding hairline :D
Yes the most noticeable similarities aren't caused by similarities. Just that many daughters consider their mom to be their role model. Some take it too far.
