I wish someone can explain to me why are women so obsessed with their weight! I mean, I'm no neurologist, but I bet you it occupies more gray matter in women's brain than say, gadget interest. (trying to be funny, NOT sexist)

What is it that is so worrying about women's weight? Why are 2 pounds over your skinnier than a stick too much to worry about?

Let me share a little secret with you. For a very long time I thought I figured out women. I cracked the formula that makes women tick. I guess it wasn't a surprise when I discovered that I didn't know dilly squat! Or at least, to comfort my ever shrinking ego, let's say, what I knew isn't applicable for everyone all the time.

One thing men appear to have mastered over women is carelessness! I know, that's not something to be proud of. Most of the time. But men seem to better handle "not worrying" about many things that might be fatal. In fact, it's proven that men live shorter than women. Mainly because most are careless. While married men live longer (thankfully due to their loving wives imprinting some care/worrying onto them)

But I guess men are risk takers by design. Or is it that women somehow convinced us that it's "manly" to go jump in front of that charging tiger to save her! Oh women!

Anyway, women's care of things like 6 grams extra of weight will never seize to amaze me! Just as male's testosterone induced stupidity!

    ----

Yeah, I know, I'm getting house broken!

    Memories....

well i dont know about other women but ... (wait, did u change anything about ur form today? it looks better!) i never had an issue with weight when i was younger and mom kept saying bokra betshoofee when i told her she was way too obsessed about her weight, well guess what, bokra aja, its not the weight its the shape of body, we crowd fat lumps in one location around the belly which looks like crap! and i dont really care about public image because my clothes never reveal the shape of that area but its for me, i hate how it i look in the mirror, and that is... my dear freind... due to Oprah Whinfrey, the richest shallow woman on earth, or maybe i should say most shallow rich woman, or may by just most shallow woman! its the media in general, i know i shouldnt worry about it but i cant help it, and now that im 30, those lumps dont seem to go anywhere!!! just like my mom told me :( and ma mama never lies :'(

I worry about the weight because the fat always end up where not wanted or needed..
When we want to lose weight, we start by losing it from the upper body !! Sadly, we gain it back from the bottom up and usually it stops at the waist and doesn't go back to where it was..and this is why we worry, very simple !!!

The place where you gain the fat is not the same for all women, there are some women who gain weight in their faces before the hips - lucky bitches lol

But anyways women care more about their weight because it's only a result of what society/media/other people taught them: ya betdeeri balek 3a 7alek o sheklek ya ma 7ada betalla3 fiki (at least in arab societies),your significant other could lose interest (yes most guys care about looks more than personality), etc ...  I've never met a guy who cared about him gaining weight, but if you point out to a woman that she put on a little weight that's enough to ruin the rest of her day.

We're vain :D.  I just want to look cute for my darling hubby actually.  And well for health reasons, the extra weight can hurt.
But seriously you just can not group "women" alltogether, every woman is different.  Some care, some don't, some pretend to care and some pretend not to.  Just like there are some men who are not careless and really care about how they look there are women who are completely careless.  Generalizations are rarely true.

Maryam Ayaash: your mother worried about her weight, you simply inherited her body image concerns through unconscious mimicking. Many women's weight issues are a result of more immediate family and friends than far away celebs. A friend of mine would crash diet before her mum visited for example and many people like to lose weight before a reunion with old friends. If we stopped commenting on other women's weight we would not be secretly worrying about our own! (not saying you do, your post just sparked the thought) i aslo agree with 'Me'.

Qwaider: lots of compliments can change a womens' attitude on the subject...

now, let me tell u a secret...u can never figure out women!!! i cannot figure out ME yet...we r so moody, want so many things, at different times, but really it is hard to figure out women as it is hard for women to figure out men!!! it is a fact, live with it, like i do and u will be happy!!!
weight...i can talk out of my own experience, first it started cuz my cholestrole levels were high, and doctors explained that i need to work on it to survive for my kid, so my motive then was my kid, then after loving what i was doing, and figure forming to be sexier...then what the heck, i got two good things here instead of one, health and body appealing...and once i reached that far (been doing it for 20 months), i really donot wanna go back to old body of mine, and i am afraid that if i slip now then i will simply lose control and all work i have done is gone...so it is hard for women to maintain pretty body without working hard on it, unless her genes r to kill for...u, guys can diet in no time and go back in shape, hubby is doing it now and working out well for him, not as hard as mine though...
men looks at women with nice figures r way too different...i can tell...
beside, woman looks at her body in mirrors and she needs to love what she is looking at...unhappy woman with her body is an unhappy woman...and again that is my own conclusion!!
so why cannot we be obssessed about our weights????

we worry about our weighrt it is a fact of life...but it is not all because it is nice to be at a healthy lower weight...but it is healthier for everyone...the more weight you carry the more health problems u have or will have as you get older..so being fit and at a healthy weight should be an important issue for both men and women...a healthy diet and exercise should be a part of everyone's life..but we women are drama queens and we have to make a drama out of everything...speaking of that i am very upset about a 1.5lb weight gain since monday...and as much as i hope it is the baby that gained these lb and not me...it is not possible because babies do not gain 1.5 in less than a week...waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh...see what i mean??:o)

Dude, be thankful they're obsessed with their OWN weight. They COULD be obsessed with YOUR weight!

And they are built to worry, worry, worry. It takes the burden off of us, because we can therefore be carefree. Besides, they live longer than us, so if they worry, they'll die closer to our age, rather than outliving us by 20 years as lonely widows.

Believe me, I've tried to get my darling wife to stop worrying, but it's a hobby for her, and for all women. It's just what they do. So I accept her and love her for the wonderful woman she is. And I don't worry about it. ;-)
