Apologies to all pregnant women, or women who might get pregnant in advance, but WHY oh why do some women have this urge to have total strangers touch their over stretched bellies?

Don't get me wrong, I think pregnancy is an amazing miracle and I love babies despite all their "undocumented features". But give me a break! The bakery is not a place to rub someone's tummy!

Here's what happened to me today as I popped into a bakery to grab a cake on my way to visit some friends. I was asking the lady which cake contained what when a lady came and stood in line behind me and started donating advice on which cake is better and how chocolate is the corner stone of life

Anyway, I decided and out of being nice asked when is your due date, she said in couple of months or so but then she spontaneously grabbed my hand and pulled it to her belly and asked me, you want to touch it!?

I have no idea what was going through her mind when she did that, I didn't know what to do, I was ambushed and although my contact was extremely brief, I did get freaked out a bit.

I actually don't know what to think! But it was awkward!

lol I'd react the same way. She should have asked first rather than grab your hand. Some people like to feel the baby kick! Plus it means you must have an honest face or she wouldn't do that with a stranger :)

I usually end up with people I just met trying to give me a hug! Apparently just because I'm chubby people think I'm a teddy bear :(

I agree with Tamara, total strangers want to rub a pregnant lady's belly. I am a seriously no-touch kinda person especially with strangers and just love my personal space. When I was pregnant my hormones took over and everyone and their mother was allowed to feel the baby kicking. What can I say, pregnancy is like being high and makes u do really weird out of character things.

my wife is pregnant and she wouldn't dream of forcing someone's hand on her belly... heck... i think it would freak her out having someone grope our unborn child. same with me... neither do i want my wife extending her belly to strangers nor do i want strangers fondling my wife's belly/future daughter.

I wrote a post but it didn't show up... must have something to do with my terrible Orange DSL service seeing that my speed gets throttled back within a week and half of my billing cycle... but that's beating an old horse to death. Grrr Orange!

Anyway...

That would totally freak me out as well. My wife is 3 weeks from giving birth to our 3rd child. She wouldn't dare force someone's hand on her preggo belly. I think it would freak her out to have someone groping our unborn child. Neither do I want my wife extending her belly in some freaky "let's celebrate life together and sign kumbayah" ritual nor would I want any stranger fondling my wife's belly/unborn daughter.

This reminded us of some girl at Wendy's restaurant in America who asked if she could touch my wife's belly and it was so weird. Look... I agree babies are a miracle... but the one in my wife's belly is our miracle. GO GET YOUR OWN!

no one is allowed to touch my belly except for hubby and my kids to feel the baby kick...and i get totally annoyed when talking to people and they touch my belly...so not all pregnant women...most women i know on my pregnancy forum are always complaining about this...no one wants to be touched by anyone...especially not total strangers..so yeh u just met a weird person...
