There are certain movies that make you feel good. There are others that make you feel bad, then there is this movie which makes you feel like shit!

Pardon my French, I'm not used to saying words like that on my blog. But that's exactly how I felt most of the time while watching this movie. The lady next to me barely saw half the movie due to the extremely explicit content and at least 10% of the audience walked out.

    Towelhead movie poster

Now, the movie is well made, as good as any great drama you would see, but it's over the top approach to a simple issue is just seriously too much!

Set to take place during the first gulf war. Jasira (Jazeera) is a 13 year old half-Lebanese-half-American girl who is torn between the two cultures (exactly like 90% of all Arab Americans), but with a reckless uncaring mother, and an extra strict narcissistic hypocritical father. She has an extra amount of damaging environment.

The movie opens up to Jasaira's step father (or her mother's boyfriend) "helping" her shave "down under". In the most disgusting manner you can ever imagine for a 13 year old.

The movie reeks with pedophilia, as if the director's dream is to be the star of "To catch a predator". All while going over the most intimate details of a 13 year old girl barely discovering her body in what is a very private part of her life. Not suitable for the big screen.

I really don't recommend this movie for people with weak stomachs. It takes a number of very sensitive (but natural) parts of girl's life at the first steps of womanhood.

    Opens September 26th

    Memories....

well the actress is 20, and in the US where contraceptives are given to girls as young as 11 I think people are disgusted by something that millions of teenage girls younger the one on the movie are doing every single day. Sexual content involving teens in movie may attract pedophiles but it doesn't make them.

IT can be disturbing to see a lot of sexual content, but that shouldn't drop the quality of the movie just like violence shouldn't drop the rating of an action movie. Honestly I haven't seen the movie and I may not but from everything I read about it, it sounds like it should be a good one.
It opens on the 26th, I would appreciate it if you could see it, and tell me what you think

I just finished watching this movie.  I disagree with you.
They did a wonderful job portraying pedophilia and all that comes along with it, which is not a “simple issue” and should be taken seriously.  The whole matter is disgusting to begin with, so off course you should not feel happy watching it!  As it is not meant to be a “feel good” movie.  In addition, you should feel sick to your stomach (that is the point).
I didn’t like the father’s character though, felt he was a bit over the top and didn’t seem like he was a NASA scientist… and all the time I was thinking “shid 7anakak”.

I'm not sure what you disagree with Noura. I did say the move is well made, and that it's not a feel good movie. The issue is very serious I agree but it's rather simple. Like Murder for example, it's simple, you kill someone. But it's serious nonetheless.
The father is the typical hypocritical Arab in America. He would be the top of his class and the most successful whatever. He wants to sleep around and have girlfriends while treating his wife and daughter like they were goats.

In the end, what you feel about a movie is subjective. You might like it a lot while your twin sister might hate it. It's a matter of taste. Both are right
