The reason I've been very occupied in the past couple of weeks was simply because I was interviewing for my dream job. Doing what you really love for a living is not something that you can take lightly, so I had to focus a lot, and concentrate on one thing. Getting the Job!
My set of interviews got me worried, I met with 11 different members, from researchers to associates, to professors to partners, and 11 (yes you heard it right, eleven) interviews later, I nailed it!
Last night, as I was driving home from work to have Iftar, I had the hiring manager email me congratulating me on getting the position
I guess, good stuff do come in batches. Or maybe it's just a set of fortunate events that progressively get better. It all started the day I got married! It's crazy, I know, but Maioush, has been the rocket fuel that my life has been missing!
By the way, this is the first post that I write using the new Google Chrome browser, and I already love it. Way more than firefox, opera and Safari. But it still have couple of issues to fix. (I had flash crash on me, tinyMCE render incorrectly, and a few other minor issues)
I remember couple of years ago, I was telling a fellow colleague of mine on the work I was doing on capturing, classifying and preventing spammers on the Internet. I was mentioning how my quick prototype has yielded millions of suspicious IPs and how I envisioned IP address reputation to be useful for preventing future attacks. Then, I remember clearly how I said, "now if there was anyway I could make a living out of this"...
My friend soon moved to Cisco systems, and started working on other hard problems while I continued my work in security and authentication, until the opportunity came knocking. It wasn't something I was going to take lightly and I totally jumped on it.
The work I've done, with a number of demonstrations, and my understanding of how IP address reputation paid off, and soon, it will be more useful on the much larger scale.
Funny thing, I got a call from KJ while I was about to board a flight to Chicago during this process and briefly told him what I was about to. It wasn't clear at the time if I was going to get it or not. But I did, and oh boy, am I excited!
I guess over the next couple of years I will be super busy, putting theory to some good use. Hopefully, to help make spam a relic of the past.
And it all started, when I made the best decision I made in my whole life... Marrying the right person
Memories....
it must've been all the physics u dazzled them with during the interview ;)
All the very best with the new job =)

TOTALLY, I didn't expect that at all. But I was asked couple of physics questions that were completely out of this world! Even worse I was asked about American politics! Weird! But I guess they want to see how I think!
Mohanned
Thanks My friend, good luck to you too

More dough, I've had a private office for 8 years now :), and yes, I will continue to have my own window office. New office comes with new furniture, and new support staff as well. In fact a full organization.
It's a promotion, a step up and a complete shift in the gears. From deeply technical position to a more management. But it will allow me to focus more on the broader problems from a completely new perspective
And before you as, it comes with a new title as well
w kol saneh w enta salem yn3aaaad 3aleeek w 3la maioush ramadan b el se7a w el salameh :)
Alf mabrook Samer, wallah you deserve it! Make the net a better place for everyone :) All the best
And here is another grin :P I need a longer face LOL

Allah ybarek feek. Inshallah .. I will try my best to do that
Tried Chrome, still too Beta-ish for me, and I feel naked without my plugins, but thanks to the party you and KJ had on my last post, I added support in the browser-sniff plugin :)
Congratulations Sam, best of luck!
InshaAllah this position, Maioush & everything beautiful you do in life would be roads for u to heaven.. Amen :)
Alf Mabrouk, I think its really librating to work in something you like and have passion for... It's a great step in life when someone moves on from a job to a career path... good luck!
Now all of that is behind me :) and I've learned one hell of a lesson!
Spammers are increasingly using free e-mail providers to avoid IP address-based reputation systems. These systems track mail sent by various IP addresses and assign each IP address a rating. Some anti-spam software operates largely or exclusively on the basis of the IP address rating.
Personally i think it is the greatest thing in the world to be working in something that you are truly passionate about.
The funny thing is that at some time i briefly thought of writing something to try to "break" your spam protection (sort of 7arkasheh) .. but i guess now i should stay away :-D
Sorry i've been out of the loop for a while, school work and deadlines kept me off QP for quite some time.
Congrats again.
