Memories....
I think you need to go out and interact with a different crowd :-)
believe me when I say, I didn't stop looking for the past 8 years, and barely know a few in that middle
Well, what happens is the cultural shock overwhelms them. The ones who despise American values and their openness get ever more attached to their religion as a savior. they try to live the same way those did 1400 years ago. The others couldn't wait for all that family, religion, society pressure to get off their back and just live by their newly acquired belief systems. But, when they shed their original values and morals, they start anew just like a child, with non!
anyways, had you lived in the Bay Area, you would have had a different idea.

That's the most irresponsible thing you have ever written. You are truly a blithering fool and an arrogant one at that. So you have appointed yourself as the barometer for moderation and anyone who does not think or act like you is an extremist. Maybe people don't like you because you are a rude pretentious person. So just because you feel isolated from people who can't stand your arrogance, you accuse them of being extremists and you are the only sane person around. What an imbecile.
Also I take exception in that you seemed for a moment to imply that you can't have morality without religion.
Having said that, there's no reason not be able to befriend both extremes and everything in between. It just depends on the person.
On the bright side, whenever someone brings up marriage, I only have to bring up my religious affiliation and then they can't run away fast enough. Hahaha!
Maybe it's as you said, a cultural shock and it will subside. I have seen so many who revert back to religion. (And many going in the other direction)
Many people assure me it's better elsewhere. Mainly where there's a huge community. Where people mingle more

I agree, my neighbors are like diamonds. They're not Arab, they're so good, and so nice that I feel blessed to have them.
But the truth of the matter is that you need to open up and share with someone. Someone you can just speak your mind to in your mother tongue!
Suha
Irrisponsible according to who? Who appointed you the spokesperson for people's feelings and emotions?
Fool? Arrogant? Is that how your mother taught you to deal with people?
While Moderation has really no definition, and many find themselves as the center of the universe therefore moderation is their own 'definition'. I have made it clear what I believe is moderation and in this specific case, being normal, well rounded and down the center. Ahhh .. that's still too subjective I guess!
People liking me or not liking me is really not the subject here. Consider this. Imagine if you're walking down the street while someone on one side accuses you of blaspheme, while another guy at the same time accuses you of extremism, and being too particular religiously. While you're neither!
Anyway, please watch your rude language.
Laila
I know Extremism is being used to describe a group that have been clinching to specific fanatic beliefs. But I think people who sway all the way to the other side are also equally as extremist.
But you're right, people in the middle are quickly becoming rare gems!

You know me man. Of course I wouldn't say something like religion and Morality are the same thing. But for many, it is! Therefore, they think shedding their religion means that they also need to shed all the good things about it!
I do have friends from both extremes. But to tiptoe on every subject makes it really hard to have a deeper connection.
We only ship out extremists to the US :P
Elli beddo ykhrab, byekhrab, and the others become bearded up and ready to explode.
You see it more in the US because of the ratio between Arabs/nonArabs. But what you have described is present here as well but the effect is diluted because there are more Arabs here that's all.
I guess this needs way more thinking than I initially invested!
المشكلة، الكل فاكر نفسه اوسط الناس.. و لو شو ما عملتي لا يمكن لأحد اقناعه انه عنده تطرف الى جهة او اخرى
