One of the most amazing words I heard during my Katb Kitab, were the wise words of the Islamic cleric who performed the marriage ceremony, it was in direct contradiction with the following:

"The man may be the head of the family, but the woman is the neck, and the neck can move the head in ANY direction it wants"

But the really simple cleric uttered some amazing words, to indicate that it's really NOT a game, it's not a competition, it's not about domination, it's not really a tug of war... it was way deeper!

He said, "Men are the head AND neck" then he continued, "Women are also the head and neck".

Simple words of a simple man, then he quoted a verse from the Quran: فإن أرادا فصالاً عن تراض منهما وتشاور فلا جناح عليهما
Which translates to "If they both decide on weaning, by mutual consent, and after due consultation, there is no blame on them"

The cleric made it clear, to me at least, that this is a partnership! A partnership that needs compromise, sacrifice and support of both parties to make it work. It's not going to be easy. But it's not impossible.

It's really demeaning to any woman in the world to accept the role of a mindless, headless "neck". I wouldn't accept to hear that my Mother, or one of my sisters is considered someones "Neck", I won't have my wife be reduced to a mindless-body-part, no matter how great it's function.

We might not be identical, but we complete each other. This doesn't mean that one has a monopoly on brain power while the rest just follows.

At times, it's just wonderful to relax your head and your neck and rest confidently that the second head and neck are there to make sure, everything is alright!
