Forced to donate!

And people keep asking my why I have an issue with American Muslims, Mosques, Islamic centers and community! Like it's not enough that every single Islamic occasion is a major issue. It's not enough to have a huge disconnect between Muslims from different ethnic groups with different motives behind every contradicting decision they make. But here comes the worst part, forced Donations!

Few years back I had a number of electric appliances that I no longer had any use for after I moved to my new house. I thought, I'd take these to the local mosque! BIG MISTAKE!

I called the care takers, only to hear a lady on the phone who belittle the donation asking only for monetary donations! But that's not the worst story yet!

My father in law was arranging to have an Islamic shaikh to perform the religious ceremony. To his shock there was a small donation to be made for this ceremony to take effect. Only $250. Then he added that it's "nothing"

Now, this is the weird part, they insist that this is a "donation". When it's really not! It makes me feel sick to my stomach as people alias things in different ways for whatever motives they have.

I wonder how much it costs in properly named "fees" in Jordan it would be. Anybody knows?

    Memories....

    salam Qwaider

I guess one i read in news paper that fees are between 50jds and 100jds and there is some kind of custom of giving more money "ekrameh y3ni"

any way alf mabrook, o allah yetamem lkum 3a kheer
to my surprise, the other ay when i was in amman and after checking in one of the well known hotels , they had a little card with our key card saying that a fee of 1 JD is going to be donated in our name to the Jordan Cancer Society- يعني غصب عنا- and if we did not want this donation to be deducted from our account we have to sign the accompanied card and say no!!! of course upon check out we forgot to sign it!!! i have nothing against giving money to charity or wahtever "good" reason, but to be forced to do it is shamelss and inappropriet!
    sa7?
They're robbing people off in the name of Islam. It's been always like this in a way or another..

The "fees" of getting married in Jordan (katb el ktab + el mo3amaleh fel ma7kameh el shar3yyeh) are less than 100 JDs with the tips (maho here we have a new fashion of forced tips!)

    Summer,
It does happen a lot! In many well-known hotel brands! I've donated to green-piece, WFO, Youth anti-drugs, and many others, all through adds-on on a hotel check!

That's horrible. No wonder we give off bad impressions in the west
I don't know, I agree with you they shouldn't call it a donation, but beyond that they have to make a living like anyone else. You shouldn't compare their "fees" in Jordan to those in the US as there aren't as many "sheikhs" available over there although one can also argue that there aren't as many muslims so demand is lower, but that would leave them more needy!
