When I first set foot in the US, I remember the gas was 87c a gallon. Like half a JD per gallon. But last time I was at the pump the price has sored to over $4.25 a gallon, $4.60 a gallon for premium. But it's understandable, the price of oil barrel used to be less than $20 at that time, now it's over $120 so ... yeah at least 6 times more expensive than it used to be

I remember even the gas in Vancouver Canada (where I'm heading for the weekend) used to be around 40c Canadian per liter (does anyone know what is the price there these days?)

So there's this guy, who have modified his car to run on Water! Yes, you heard it right, it runs on WATER! He gets a whopping 100Miles to the ounce (That is 160KM/28gm water), so, YEAH! That's awesome

Catch phrase: "When you separate the water from the Oxygen from the hydrogen it 'cooks' and it cooks down to a brown ..."
    Yeah !?!

Of course, my inner repressed-skeptic-mad-scientist is calling a major BS. This is just ridiculous! To be able to generate that much power from water. For way too many reasons

First, you will need energy, A HUGE AMOUNT OF ENERGY to separate Hydrogen from Oxygen. So much energy in fact that it's not even feasible to do it (Or NASA would have sent rockets with WATER instead of dangerous liquid Hydrogen and Oxygen tanks)

Second, even if you can separate them, you just can't do it that rapidly to allow enough quantities to sustain an internal combustion engine! It's just NOT POSSIBLE!

Now my inner repressed-optimistic is wishing something like this would happen, then the extroverted Arab in me kind-of gets upset because as an Arab, I see good coming from Arabs achieving riches by selling oil at a good price. Now if we can only work on getting them to SHARE! But looks like that class is missing from the curricula in the gulf states!

Anyway, I should be able to go to a pump anywhere here in the US, and demand chap gas because, well, yeah, I'm an Arab, I should get cheap gas. It's part of my culture. Right?!

Back to the guy who wants to donate all the money from his "invention" to missionaries all over the world (Go ahead Kinzi, hold your breath :)). So lets just hope Exxon or Texaco are not going to assassinate him before he prefects his "invention"

Violation of the 3rd law of thermodynamics is written all over this thing! Do I smell another Steorn?

Looks like this is not the first person to invent this... check this out .. *(yeah sorry, it's from the devil empire itself, Foxnews)

    Memories....

Ok I'm a middle-class person in the US right now, and I don't understand why are Americans sooooo much complainig about gas prices. I have to pay 40 more dollars a month TOTAL for filling up my car. that isn't that big of a deal. They buy freakin huge SUV for their one child? Why didn't they buy a fuel-efficienct car in the first place?

I don't drink alcohol but I am just soooooooooooooooooo drunk right now I was laughing hysterically for 15 minutes at 3 AM when I read this.

OK I wrote 700 replies for this bas I will sum it up as follows:

    And there you have it
    Hareega
I Totally agree with you. My moron neighbor went and bought a goddamn Hummer and makes my life hard every time I try to squeeze by it. I looked at him in disbelief when I saw it and was like WTF!!? You bought a LARGER CAR and you're freakin SINGLE!!!?
Anyway, I pay something like $70 every week at the pump and I don't even travel that much. I'm not really complaining but I think some people who have to use their cars for work are feeling it. Especially when the tax break you get for using your car is like 35c/mile.
Now, I am certain my next car is going to be a Hybrid of some sort, the problem is that they're in such high demand now that they're selling for $1000 over the sticker price! So, it's not a good time to buy one of those

    KJ
I'm glad I got you some laughs :)
sure and you can kill a blind man driving one of them

    Qwaider, I Googled it (it's $1.37 CAD/Liter).

Oh and here's a chart of the price of gas in vancouver, you can change it to see the monthly/yearly trend, it's been going up all month!

    http://www.vancouvergasprices.com/retail_price_chart.aspx

About the water, I wouldn't say it's completely impossible, we just may not have the technology to do it yet. In the mean time I've seen some electrical car designs that generate water as their only byproduct (instead of CO), and then use it to cool the car. Now that's efficiency!

I know a lot of Singaporeans who cross the border to Malaysia just to fill up petrol. I'm uncertain if I should even learn driving now? The brand of rice that we always buy has increased from 16 dollars to a whopping 27 dollars. Everything's increasing, except for the pay!
The rice I used to buy was $7 now it's $18

I think that those who really should complain are the UN employers working in Europe  (or outside US), they are still taking their earning in US Dollars!! This who used to earn around 6000 US$ is now getting around 100 Euros less than four years ago, after the raise :D. my poor friend

    Bonjour! :D

Alright regarding the petrol price hike, here in the UAE we have it much less than over at the US. I own a Pajero (short-base) and for a 3.8L it is quite "efficient", I run 400 kilometers on 13 gallons. I fill it up on average $20 using premium every time I go to the pump.

With Dubai's large distances (my office is 40 KM away from my house, short route) I fill it ip 2-3 times a week.

In Saudi my car fills up with $6.7, so the UAE is considered as far as I know the most expensive in the GCC.

With that, the price of everything else goes up naturally. The eggs used to cost $4.8 and they're roughly $8 now. Chicken increases roughly 40% in price annually and it happens on Ramadan.

Now regarding the hydrolysis thing, I don't truly buy it just yet (otherwise wouldn't it have made international news?) but like Hani said it is possible in the near future, and recently there was a guy touring the world with his solar powered car (and boy did he enjoy sunny Dubai), so the hybrid and next gen cars are inshalla going to be a reality soon.

The Brits will have it worst though *points to clouds* ;)
Guys, it's possible to separate Oxygen from Hydrogen but do you know what's the catch? It takes MORE POWER to separate them, than they produce while burning (ie, chemically bonding to form water)
So, em ... yeah, it's quite impossible, inefficient, infeasible, call it what ever you want. You're not going to see it on a car near you anytime soon!
Electrical cars however, have a Huge chance. Inshallah I'm buying a Tesla Car soon. Fully electrical, 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds, and goes 200 miles (320km) on a 3 hour charge! :)

    Ya 3eini 3al tesla car :D

Speaking of which, go to youtube a search for "tesla mario" :D LOL
the oil is now at 138.6 a barrel..Embrace for the 200..
Or the 500 if the moron in Washington decided they want to go ahead and continue harassing Iran! Or worse
well, mofaz today said that there is no other way but the surgical attack on iran..And by the way it looks like netenyaho will soon become their primeminister..
I saw the news ... IT's not enough that everyone understood that Iran won't be able to make a Nuclear bomb in the next 8 to 10 years. It doesn't matter... fee katleh .. ya3ni fee katleh!
