Yesterday, owner and cufrator of the wonderful site Dwwen, Tareq Abu Zeid, declared that the very esteemed blog aggregator site is going to be shut down due to financial and resource burdens.

This is not the first time someone throws the towel on the blog aggregating business. Before Tareq, there was Khaled who created Jordan Blogs, and after the amount of pressure escalated through the roof opted to retire, not only from aggregators but from the whole blogging scene (although, he does grace this blog with visits from time to time)

Even before Khaled, there was Issam, the amazing guy who was behind Jordan Planet(RIP), and again the taxing nature of this kind of business forced Jordan planet to be put to sleep at the peak of it's popularity.

    This list goes on...

It's really not a simple job as people think. It's also not free. While it is being provided to the users and readers for free. It does cost the site owner many hours a day, and a certain amount of $$$. That attrition is enough to force even the most successful out of this whole scene.

It's sad to see sites like Dwwen disappear. It's even worse to see how our Arabic Internet continues in this ever shrinking trend. But lack of support and ever decreasing level of gratitude of users and blog owners causes many to just give up.

    And I can't blame them!

Thank you Tareq, and Dwwen for everything. Thank you for believing in us when others condescendingly refused us (itoot) thank you for supporting us. Thank you for your time, energy, money, professionalism and dedication. Thank you for everything.

I sincerely hope this doesn't happen as Tareq advertised on his blog (16th of June). But even if it did, Dwwen will continue to be viewed in the eyes of history as a beacon on light in the great ocean of dark competition and moody sites with horrible attitudes.

    Memories....

If it wasn't for QP, I might never read some of the blogs I enjoy today, but if the day comes when you do decide to kill it, I hope MD will survive the purge.

We bloggers are a piece of work.

Thanks for putting up with us! :)

well, even when Qwaider.com has crappy service (no foot massages) it is still a OK. But, shame on some Arab companies that would not budge and embrace the amount of exposure they could get by sponsoring organic Arab web 2.0.
That's it ... i didn't want to say anything on this subject, but now you have triggered me :-) .. i will write a reply post myself :-)
    Q,

Do I smell an aura of fatigue?
No no ... no .. I'm not going anywhere ... at least not for a while! There are no plans to "give up" just yet!
But I can certainly identify with what everyone is complaining and feeling frustrated about.
well .. Dwwen just announced that they will not be shutting down. So, i guess i won't have to write my post now.

    it's BIG lose for us

this message is show now on the home page of dwwen... لن يتوقف دوّن ... المزيد من التفاصيل لاحقا

    I agree with kinzi.
dwwen who? jordanplanet? listen, i never go there and i already know a bunch of bloggers ... are u sure their job was in anyway important? why did they shut down? lack of server space and bandwidth or no advertising income? are they like technorati? funny thing, i know it does something good, i just dont know what :) never used it, or wait, i did try to search thru it, got lousy results, left it in 20 seconds, technorati that is... am i the only one?

Dunno what to say, cuz I dunno how much it costs to run the thing. Probably a good idea now to get some sponsors to cover the financial costs, or ask for donations from the fan base?
