I was interviewing someone for a very challenging position. After someone stole my previous employee. We haven't been able to hire anyone from the pool of candidates we got. This time was no exception.

Anyway, the nice candidate started talking about his projects. The great things he's done, during his fellowship and teaching assistant jobs. The papers he published and so on.

I know deep inside the job is much simpler than that! But it does require a specific analytical mind set! He didn't have that in specific. Then I thought to myself, the hardest part of this Job is actually the interview!

It's funny how the job description specifies, this degree, that degree, this experience, that whatever (which is a major plus). Then once the job actually starts, less than 20% of all of that is needed!

Yet, it's there in the job requirements. The HR guys are very adamant to find that and only that. Not someone who can grow into that position! Why would they take someone who is any less that that? After all there's plenty of talent in the market!

The sad part, just about everyone in management agrees with that! Except, when they want to hire thier own sons to do the job!

Isn't it ironic that the children of the top executives and owners of huge corporations also get top positions. Are they qualified? Hmm, I'm sure they can be grown into the qualification! Just like everyone else who's got that 20%.

So next time you go through an Interview, just remember that it's the hardest part of your job! So work really hard on it!

Shkeeli ta 2ebkeelak! LOOL! It's tough for fresh grads like me. I have to fill in all my extra cirricular activities mshan yefhamo I can pull off something.

The recent thing I got - supervision of the hazardous site by taking photos - they nominated me because I put into photography on my then-CV.

So seemingly stupid stuff like being able to arrange a deck of cards into a pyramid without having it topple, can be quite useful on a CV - concentration, preciseness, patience.

I sit next to HR (they relocated though last week) so it was amusing to hear their side of the phone interview, and the fadaye7 after it!

PS: Akeed when I apply for your company you will treat me like your long lost son and put me in a lofty position akeed akeed yes? In return you get your own personal comedian and a pet rabbit.
Interesting take on jobs :-) i like it:-)
I was recently involved in interviewing and I had to short-list candidates from over 100 to 5. It was such a shame to see people making silly mistakes on their CVs which removed them from the short-list. They had stopped making the effort before they were even short-listed for the interview.
