The answer to life, the universe, and everything is ... 42!

Nothing new, especially for people familiar with "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". But I have a different reason to think 42 is such a special number.

Ever wondered what would happen if you dug a tunnel from one side of planet earth, and you dropped inside it. What would happen!?

    Hole through the Earth

Well, according to some nifty equations that involve gravity inside of a sphere, speed, acceleration it seems that you will emerge from the other side of the planet travelling at the same speed you had when you entered the planet. In other words... 0. Because you started the jump from 0.

But that's not the impressive part, according to the equation, the time it takes you to travel from one side of the planet to the other side is always equal to the same number. 42 Minutes ... And that's not the end of it!

The interesting part is that you don't even need to pass through the center of the Earth, as long as you create a tunnel through the sphere.

In other words, you don't have to dig one tunnel and end up in China, you can dig a tunnel between Jordan and say New York, or Los Angeles, or perhaps South Africa It doesn't matter. The result is the same, 42 minutes!

    Through Earth

But the weirdness doesn't stop there. Apparently, the time it takes to traverse the planet can be calculated simply by knowing it's Radius and it's "g" which is a function of it's Mass. T = π√(Rearth/gearth). So that time is almost constant if the ration of R/g is constant. (Which means you would be travelling at a greater speed at the center of your tunnel

So imagine being able to go through the Universe through such a tunnel in space-time! That would be such a thrill ride. But since (α) (Acceleration) which is a function of the mass and R which is the length of the tunnel. Even though the mass of the universe is gargantuan, R is even larger. Causing the time T to cross the center of the universe to be so huge!

    That would be fun!

(Sorry for the crappy illustrations, I'm not that good at drawing)

    Memories....

    Wow!
Imagine the possibility to travel between any given 2 points on earth in 42 minutes only!
The only problem is of course that the earth will look like a swiss cheese before long hehe

Btw, I had to switch to Firefox to post this comment. Turns out I am STILL registered as spam every time I use Opera to comment (And Opera happens to be my default browser). Could you please try solving this?
Apparently, Opera has some issues. It's not playing nice and raises the supposition of my anti-spam routines.
I don't know what you're doing, but it ain't right! Trust me! It appears like a a plugin that is not functioning correctly!
You are saying that I can go from وسط البلد للبقعة in only 42 minutes? Without dealing with الكنترولية و شوفرية التكاسي ? Without the mess of أزمة بعد الظهر ? OMG= يا باييييي

You know, what I find interesting - from psychology - is that the observer's effect will certainly change the way things are. I believe that the universe is in fact a living entity, one made so by having living components (living not in the Biblical sense).

If we're basing the universe on it being "precisely random", then the observer's effect will definitely change the 42 just before it is exposed. Just like how the mind makes a facade to shroud its secrets once it notices it is being observed. Which is one of the main reasons I am certain one cannot understand a brain in its living state, and there's no  real use with the conscious and/or subconscious absent.

So yes, probably for now we can take 42 minutes to get anywhere (certainly twice as long from my place to the office in regular traffic). But if some "random" cosmic phenomena changes the universal layout don't blame but yourself :P
Good thing you don't have to go through the center, it's probably too hot to survive, but we can send KJ just to be sure!

Hope you don't mind, I wasn't sure how to set the yamli options so I borrowed yours to start with. I like the inside option since it's more compact, but it doesn't work for text areas :(
