There are very few moments in Microsoft's history where I look at the decisions being made and think, damn, that was smart!

Today, is one of those -rare- moments.

    After what appears to be marathonic negotiations, Microsoft formally withdrew their offer, while Ballmer declared the new official Policy for Microsoft;

Ultimately, our goal is to build the industry-leading business in search, online advertising, media, and social networking.

Apparently, new policy is exactly the same old "rule the world" policy! Maybe they mean it.... this time!

    Earlier:
And Yahoo continues to pimp it!
Microsoft's Ultimatum to Yahoo, negotiate or else!
Microsoft - Yahoo deal, predicted development!
Microsoft - Yahoo deal, my thoughts

    My thoughts...

This is the smartest move Microsoft has taken in years, only this time it didn't cost them 500 million dollar like the Facebook deal

What this deal insured is that the price for Yahoo to be sold (to Google or anyone else) will no longer be anything less than $31 (and later $33) offered by Ballmer over the weekend

The results are going to be clear on the close of business day on Monday, 15-30% drop in Yahoo's stock price. Who wants to keep a stock that isn't going anywhere where the future isn't even guaranteed.

Yahoo already humiliated their heritage by striking a deal with Google.

But a deal with Microsoft, "clearly a deal not to be -- Ballmer"

This is clearly a blow to almost everyone who predicted the deal to go through in this summer (including me). I guess the people who saw this as a sad conclusion to the legacy of Yahoo can rest assured, the Internet is still safe!/sarcasm

    Memories....

Do you think MSFT will renew their effort when the share hit a new low? Say 20$? I think they will be back..
They might, but Microsoft might be eyeballing AOL now. Or building thier own. I mean, if Microsoft are to pump like 10Bill in this market. I think they would do well
A bunch of analysts are thinking Microsoft will be back. But also, this is a good time to snatch few Yahoo shares, they're at 2years low so It might be a good chance to invest.
But again, Yahoo appears to be going under. I don't see anything good in thier upcoming future, they basically have "nothing"
و قول مبعوص ما قال هالحكي رايح يصير؟
Qwaider, يا حبيب مسفت ، a person starting a tiny company in silicon valley has the ego of a middle eastern royalty before even getting funding. So, imagine a jerry yang with a reputation the size of yahoo, one of the only remaining companies of the dotcom bust. This guy has an ego the size of yahoo mail storage!do you think he would give up to Pallmers' demands?
He Just lost over 300 Million in value. And that's not the end of it.
Yesterday I was talking to my advisor and she had an interesting view, she said that it would be a good thing if yahoo just crashed, her logic is built on the history of the silicon valley which was created by laid off employees. So yahoo crashing would release tons of talent into the streets, those people will create start ups that might change the world once again..What do you think?

That's known as "star nursery" theory, where new stars are built from the remnant of older brighter stars who went supernova
But Yahoo isn't going supernova. At least not yet.

As I said, Microsoft might still pick them up for $21 a share. or 30% less than what they initially offered
They might also bail them out like Microsoft did to Apple back in the 90's. And look where apple is today
