Man of steel meets actor of plastic. A super hero lovers' delight. The legend continues

    7.0/10 on the Qwaider scale

I'm such a sucker for super hero mega productions. Where human and CGI graphics live happily ever after.

Superman disappears without a trace or a reason or 5 years where he wonders the universe in search of Krypton his destroyed home-world.

    hero1

He returns to a changed world. Lex Luthor was released from prison, Lois has moved on and now she's of all things a mother!! She has moved on and received a pulitzer prize for her article "Why the world doesn't need Superman"

    hero

Seriously, there is no star in this movie. Even Kevin Spacey sucks. Probably the only half decent performance is done by Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), and probably James Marsden (Richard Lois's boyfriend).[Update] Correction, the best performace was again by Maroln Brando from the original movie. Of course he passed away, but he get the best part in the movie. He got paied without having to show up. I remember in the 70's he got 10Million dollars for being on the movie for 6 minutes. Awesome![/Update]

    love

Don't be fooled by my last paragraph, the movie is truly spectacular and holds extremely true to the legacy. The best part is arguably the beginning. Using the original sound track of the 70's movie by the one and only amazing superman the late Christopher Reeve. Frankly even the kid in Smallville Tom Welling does a better Superman than the man of Plastic, the Soap opera actor Brandon Routh. Who also looks really gay in tights.

Anyway, the movie holds to the religion. Proving that Superman as a character is larger than the actor who plays it. The movie is is amazingly inspiring and uplifting. Make no mistake it's going to make many kids very happy. Including grownup kids like me. I was super excited.

For once I thought you were talking about Spiderman 3 and I was like: Ok, what's going on?

Anyways, I never liked Superman that much. Spiderman rocks!

المهم في الآخير زبط البنت ولا حلقتلو؟
هلا فراس.. شو يازلمة بدك اياني احرق الفلم يعن؟
ما بنفع. لازم تشوفو حتى تعرف النهاية بنفسك
a question that sprang to mind, how does superman breath in outspace? or does he not need breath oxygen to survive?

however, putting that aside, i'm glad to read such a positive review from you, even thought the acting sucks as you've said heh, i havn't seen the movie but from the photos i've seen i must say i don't like the suit very much, it doesn't feel... alive, i don't know what material they used but it looks cartoonish :\

    Superman !! really ….

From your previous post about this summer movies, I think the only one I will see is Pirates of the Caribbean.

Superman ....I just don't get it maybe 15 years ago it was cool.
Wait till you see superman go to a hospital and they get him on an ECG machine and air pump .... so funny

I guess he can hold his breath in space ;-)

Tamara, there are many great movies. In two days, The devil wear prada, which is FANTASTIC ... I highly recommend that one! Especially for ladies. You will enjoy it so much

Plzzzzz dont talk like this about superman , he is my childhood hero , and since am still living my childhood then he is still my hero :)

I love him but I love the series more than the movie, I love him as clark kent not as superman , he has a great heart and a great mind and this is what makes him superman not because he can fly!
yalla 3ad ... You want him to take you on a cruise around town. You will be very jelous when  you see this movie (and upset because he is Clark for ... 5 minutes out of the 150)

This movie was a real stinker. I went in expecting a superhero movie that would rank up there with Spiderman I and II, and the Increadibles. Instead, what I got was 2 1/2 hours of looking at my watch.

Here's a list of my complaints:

    1. Louis Lane was played by a 22 year old who could have easily passed for 16. She would have been a fine choice for a something like "American Pie: The Next Generation". The role of Louis Lane requires a certain combination of intellectual maturity and spunk. This actress had neither. Let's face it, there's probably not a single 22 year old full reporter on the staff of the New York Times or Washington Post, let alone a 22 year old veteran reporter with 7 or more years experience. For Kate Bosworth to play Louis Lane, we'd have to assume that sh began her journalism career when she was 13.

    2. Both Louis's son and her live in boyfriend were completly useless to creating a decent story. Given the obvious age of Kate, her 5 year old son meant that she had to have gotten pregnant by superman when she was 17. On top of that, She doesn't know who the father is. Just how soon after bedding Superman did she hop in the sack with Richard? And what purpose did he serve anyway. Maybe Singer just figured that he needed to bring one cast member from X-men for luck.

    3. The supervillian's plot was just second rate. Brian Singer hires a top notch actor (Kevin Spacey) to play the the comic book universes most diabolical super-genious, and the best he could come up with was throwing crystals in the water to create a cryptonite continent. Lame. You could go to any comic book convention in America and at least half the 30 year old male virgins present could have written a better screenplay.

    4. Speaking of screenplays. Did Brian Singer write this steeming pile of crap by himself, or did he get some help from some friends who had made it through film school without ever having heard of Superman? They managed to write a superhero story that focuses on longing and love triangles. It was as if Singer couldn't let the Wolverine/Jean Greay/Cyclops go, and decided to just drop it in the middle of Superman. Hey, didn't James Marsden basically play the same part in both movies, cuckhold to the cooler superhero.

    5. Brian Singer went out of his way to make the X-men not look like superheroes in his two X-men films. The studio appeartently wouldn't let him do it a third time, otherwise me might have seen Superman wearing black leather as well. Instead, he tried to strip Superman's costume of it's bright tones. What we got was darker blue tights, and maroon boots and cape. Nice touch....not.

Superman Returns is a lame stinking pile of crap.
LOL Hand, apparently you didn't have a good time.
You know, I agree with you on every single thing you said. But you know what? The minute I stepped in that theatre. I was a 7 year old kid, fascinated by the lights and magic! Screw everything we learned in film school. This is superman, and I'm gonna enjoy it no matter what happens :D. And I did.
Clark was in the movie for how long? 2 minutes?

    Qwaider:

I really went into the movie with an open mind. My wife thinks of me as an overgrown kid. I have comic books in my nightstand next to the graduate geoscience textbooks that I read for less pleasurable reasons.

As an overgrown kid, I never miss a superhero movie, I never miss a superhero movie and love most of them. Even the ones that aren't great. I took my 5 year old nephew to see Fantasitc Four and enjoyed it even though it was the second time I had seen that film. Now as bad as Fantastic Four and Daedevil were, I enjoyed them and didn't feel cheated.

Superman left me feeling cheated. The greatest superhero should have had the greatest superhero movie. The greatest evil genius in the comic book universe should have come up with a beter nefarious plan. Lois Lane should have been played by an actress who could have purchased beer without ID.

My biggest complaint was that the villian's scheme was basically the same as in Superman I, kill a lot of people and make a fortune in real estate. Singer just substituted the Eastern Seaboard for the West Coast, and the crystals for the nuclear warhead. The whole set-up seemed pretty lame for a villian smart enough to become a legitimate billionaire and elected president in the comic books. $200 million and the best Singer could come up with was Lex throws crytals into the ocean.

My second biggest complaint was the casting of Lois Lane. Even if Kate Bosworth had been able to look old enough, she lacked the sparkle, the fire, the kick that so many actresses have given the character. Terri Hatcher had it; so did Margot Kidder; so did Dana Delany. Singer could have found an actress who could have puled it off, but he would have had to look for someone with more experience. And usually more experience means older, and older women tend to be more confident and self assured. Maybe none of that appeals to the director.
I don't disagree with you Hand, I'm as upset as you are. But for the untrained eye, the movie is catchy. It's also a must see (just to enjoy all the laughs on the spoofs later on :))

I just finished a round of graduate school finals in geosciences, and after taking the last exam I went to the movies to unwind. The movie my wife and I went to was My Super Ex-Girlfriend. This was not a great movie, but it was fun. It was just what I needed after several weeks of constant studdying. When it was over, everyone left the theater with a smile on their face (a big difference from the exiting crowd of the last movie I went to with the word "super" in the title).

As I said, it's not a great movie. But it was a far more enjoyable movie than Superman Returns. Unfortunately, MSEGF is probably the best superhero movie of the summer.
Yeah, actually, I saw MSEGF and liked it. I wouldn't categorize it as a Superhero movie but rather a very well made spoof. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it alot. Many times I would be like .. WOW I wis I could have that!! or Ooo, Shoot, don't want that in a woman! :D
