Research: We're -more likely- alone!

For people optimistic that we will be finding aliens sometime soon, especially the bunch who have been witnessing an increasing number of UFO sightings, here's a disappointing blow to you.

New math model, suggests it's very unlikely that there's anyone else in the universe!

Gosh, I already feel lonely!

A new paper published in Astrobiology Magazine, suggest that it's highly unlikely for life let alone intelligence to develop on the face of other planets.

Actually, it's more unlikely to develop on our planet, so yeah, it's more unlikely that we exist. But, humph, we do! I guess!

The new research takes into consideration a number of factors, and stepping stones where the period where a planet is considered "habitable" is factored in, and therefore it vastly diminishes the likelihood of life ever evolving, let alone developing intelligence, self conscious and technology.

It also indicates that humans are pretty much a very recent addition to the planet (I did mention to you before that if the whole history of planet Earth was compressed in 24 hours, the human presence would roughly the time it takes to blink your eye. Or half a second)

The other pessimistic news is that we're coming at exactly the end of the habitable era so in a billion year or so, when the Sun starts toasting our planet as it shines hotter and brighter. The whole ecosystem will be burned and reduced to nothing more than a big blob of hot oven baked glassy desert!

LoooL, I don't believe this crap. I know see why scientists insist that to live, an organism needs oxygen.

If you're a believer in God, you know that He creates organisms we don't know about! Not so long ago the earth was impossible to be round!

For them to state matter-of-factly such things is ridiculous! No I don't believe in UFO (these floating round ones I mean) but I am sure in thise whooooooooooooooooole universe, it is only us!

Have you watched Spitzer's video podcasts? You should!

Hmm, well there have been many many studies that have proved that there are micro-organisms on Mars. If these can live on the 4th planet I don't see why other organisms cannot.

As for the pessimist paragraph, there are studies that show that our end is close, mostly due to global warming. Have you seen Al Gore on Oprah and his film An Inconvenient Truth?

I really don't know whats out there, but I can NOT care less. I don't believe we are searching for the other when we can not manage ourselves. human is such a stupid creature. Is this why Americans are paying taxes? for the holy search for aliens? then Bush should contact Jesus again and ask him where exactly to search.

first, this is a British study :)
Second, this is based on mathematical models. So Theoretically it's true. Although, it predicts that WE SHOULDN'T EXIST but I guess, humans have a knack in defying logic :)

Khalid, we don't have any solid proof. We THINK we saw some fossilized rock from Antarctica that is claimed to have originated on Mars. Now I don't know how many holes are in this whole thing but it's filled with holes. For one, we can't be certain it's from Mars, Second, we don't know what we're looking at! It appears to be fossilized organic material but .. who knows!

As for inconvenient truth, I know about global warming. But what I'm saying (as our sun starts to die over the period of a billion year or so) it will grow hotter and brighter. So hot to to the point that it will blow the atmosphere away. (Global warming depends on the atmosphere where greenhouse gases retain the heat and causes all sort of problems)

I sure hope our resident Cosmologist genius (Laila) gets a chance to share us with her thoughts on this soon

Science also used to present proof that human [heavier than air]* flight was impossible until the wright brothers came along, and that energy can't be created [from mass]* until Einstein came along.

I think there's more proof of the existence of other life in the universe than there is of a Biblical or Quranic God.

Qwaider, thanks for the fixes. You know my point wasn't that I believe in Aliens, but just that the evidence for "other things" that most people believe are even flimsier.
