I couldn't rest my head to sleep, without talking about Jacek Bromski's master piece, "Love in the year of the Tiger" a Polish/Chinese story about a young Polish Siberia prisoner who escapes the horrors of Siberia across to Manchuria where he finds family, compassion and most oddly Love.

I found the first 10 minutes on Youtube, so I'll share it instead of the trailer

This movie is amazing. I enjoyed every single second of it. It had depth and immense flavor. The story was multifaceted and almost realistic.

According to Jacek Bromski, Directory, screenwriter and producer,  the idea of the movie came to him in a dream. What an amazing dream that must have been. But it's true, the Polish people have suffered under Russia, many were exiled to Siberia and imprisoned there. Many also escaped to Manchuria on their way to escape back to their homeland.

One can't but notice the amazing sound track. It was captivating from the beginning to the end. The mix of Chinese and polish is apparently better than both combined. The results are mesmorizing to say the least.

The interesting part is that in this story, the hero the polish guy. Isn't really what you would expect from a hero. He's a lazy quitter who has a different moral system than the Chinese. He doesn't even stand his grounds when he should.

The story follows the young man as he escapes from Siberia, gets rescued by a hunter who takes him in and treats him as a member of the family. While touching on the conflict between the east and the west. The way modern china looks and how everything is changing. But even back in 1913 it was changing. He touches on how women were being sold into slavery and how younger women were being oppressed with little or no say over the course of their lives.

The one scene with the little girl crying is certainly note worthy. She didn't cry when her hair was chopped like a boy, but was weeping and screaming in frustration to her inability to do anything at the situation. It was a very intense moment and sent shivers up and down my spine.

I highly recommend this movie. Although it's been out for couple of years around the world. I just got to meet Jacek Bromski at the screening and see this amazing masterpiece.

9.5 /10 on the Qwaider Scale
