The Action committee, which I am a member of, is a group of people joined together for a common goal, which is to help those in need.

    deemco

Today the Action Committee visited an elderly home in Marj Al-7amam. Not just any elderly home, one where the residents had mental problems and disabilities. We decided to visit them since we heard that they are really neglected and are in need of some company. We had lunch with them, drank coffee, played games, danced with them, and we even sang together. It was so fulfilling to see the smiles on their faces. To see them happy and to know that you are a reason for that. It felt really good. I'll admit that at first it was painful seeing them in the state that they are in. It's really sad, especially since most of them are helpless. Some of them can't walk while others can't even feed themselves.

We all had a good time with them, they were fun to be around. Some of them were pretty funny, while others were quite entertaining. A few of them danced, and others sang old songs. All they really need is some company. A few friendly faces to make their day, to listen to them and talk to them. You could see that our visit meant the world to them. They're all so sweet and friendly.

I'm not going to post any pictures here, but if you want to see the pictures that we took you can click on the following link and see them on our facebook group

It was a great experience that I really enjoyed. Not everyone gets the chance to experience how good it feels to make someone smile from the heart!

    Memories....

Bravo, you know I was contemplating all day about a Hadith which explains that God has One Hundred Mercies, One of those was put on earth: the mercy  among people, the way a mother takes care of her child, how a lioness feeds her cubs..etc, and the Ninety Nine are left for God and He gives those as He wishes.

Now, I would imagine that being nice is of the first kind, being nice to the elderly is both of the first and the second, you probably are an extention to God's mercy when you care for to the most in need of care, and care is a kind of mercy.

    Good work.
Thanks Ammar. I believe "compassion" is the word to describe it. God plants compassion in our hearts so that we feel the need to help those less fortunate than us. I just hope people become aware of the need for their help.
that's amazing deemco... good for you and the rest of the Action Committee! One of the biggest blessings we can bestow on our revered elders is that of our time. They (our parents) spent all THEIR time with us when we were children and now is the time for our generation to give back to their generation.

While it's amazing of you all to give your time to them, it makes me wonder why these elders are being neglected in the first place.... where are their children and grandchildren??? jad shu 7aram!
Thank you so much for sharing Deema, it’s so nice of you guys to cheer them up for one day, although while looking at the pictures in facebook , my heart sank to be honest, I really feel sorry for the elderly, more than anybody else, I mean those people deserve to be treated with respect and deserve to be with their families to be taken care of by them, don’t you think that these people spent their lives to make sure to raise a family, why did they do that if they will end up alone without them around?? The thought of it makes me extremely sad, I don’t wanna have kids who will end up putting me in one of those homes to die alone there.. I always pray for god and say (يا ربي لا تجعلني عاله على حدة في مكبري، و لا تغلب حدة فيي)walahi I always do :(
الله يصبرهم على اللي همي فيه او يجعل خاتمتنا خير يا رب.

That is very nice of you...I know that giving to others is one of the most rewarding things in life : ) I work with " Life Makers" and if your group are interested we have a LOT of great projects in an organized way. Please send me and email if you are.
Tinkerbella: you're right, they give and give and do all they can to bring us up the best they can and what do we give them in return? Very little when you compare them. My sisters in law always tell me, when you have children u'll appreciate ur mother and love her much much more. And it's true! I believe them. We all take our parents for granted until we experience and go through the things they did. But to leave them in an elderly home all by them self wallah 7aram! It was so sad when one of the ladies there told us to take her picture so that her mother could find her and come look for her. Ishi be2atti3 il 2alb!

Maioush: some of them don't have any family left and some have children but who are living outside the country. One lady kept proudly saying "My sons come and visit me every 3 or 4 months". Poor lady, it broke my heart. Is it too much of a burden to take his mom and let her live with him? Allah y3een ilnas. And ameen to ur prayer.

Tamara: That would be great! Could u please give me ur email?
Qwaider, Can you help us with the email exchange : ) thanks in advance !
