Your favorite blog aggregator has been updating for the past couple of weeks, and I'm glad to say, it's all done now. Starting with a vibrant new look, a new logo with fantastic new features exclusive to Qwaider Planet. Here's how to take advantage of that..

New features:

NEW: Color coded links, (previously visited articles show in a different color)
Faster, more accurate search. (RSS feed as output is still available, you can subscribe to your favorite search word. For example "Women's rights" or "honor killings" and stay in touch with these search topics anytime they are mentioned)
Faster article collection from users.
NEW: Registered users are now allowed to rate everyone's articles, casting their votes to one or many articles all at the same time. Click HERE to register, or HERE to log in
(If you're not logged in, you can view the ratings but you can't cast your vote)
NEW: Now the full list of all the blogs on Qwaider planet is on the first page for easy access

KJ, it's not visible for anyone who's not registered. They can only "view" for example. If you go to this post on QP, you will see the stars, but you will not be able to add any until you register.

Yes, you only need to register to rate the posts, but you will still be able to view other people's ratings

Notice, there's a 15 minutes delay between the actual rating time, and the time it is reflected on the rating. It's there for scalability, but I'm considering reducing that to 1 minute.

Re the Notice
It would be very annoying for people to keep getting announcements from the admin. I never liked it personally. So I wouldn't want to do to others what I didn't enjoy. Besides, it's Qwaider Planet's policy to never bother you! Unless it's really worth it.
CSS suffered a little bit after a death in the family. Then a number of very severe threats caused her to withdraw. In addition to her preparations to visit some refugee camps in Jordan so she had to lay low.
I would love to see her get back to blogging, but I don't know if she will.

She's still lurking though :)

I love the new look, great job.

However, there are some invalid links (Deleted blogs) so you need to check that. I can help point some out :)

I also liked it when the post opened in a new page instead of in the same page, but I think it is something I can deal with.

I almost never saw Qwaider planet directly since I subscribed to the RSS feed until garfan was grumpy about the changes, and then when I switched to Firefox 3 beta, my RSS plugin dies so now I visit daily !

Taj Mahal, Ka3ba, Dome of the rock, Pyramids, Arc De Triomphe, some white thing in sydney, and I don't know the rest ?!!!

beautiful, i liked it so much but i have a tiny comment, the header and side bar are all great, but the grey background for the posts listing is 1/2 1/2 kind of liked the older arrangement better but all in all, ya3teek il 3afieh, its so fresh :)

Hani, white thing is NOT Sydney! It is Burj al 3arab in Dubai, the other white thing on the left I believe is a landmark in Kuwait

Qwaider, I know that my complaint was a bit uncalled for cuz it is browser-dependent not OS dependent. I just thought of brining it up cuz Firefox on Fedora has been rendering things differently so I lowered my IQ a bit and thought it is an OS thing. Went back to Konquerer on Kubuntu and saw it isn't there, THEN I read your remark in the post that I need to register mihmihmih.

Yalla keep up the good work - and kudos on whoever did the header.

PS: Why 15 minutes for the scalability? (I'm a n00b/fresh grad so I'm gonna be asking lots of stupid stuff).

Imagine you have thousands of articles (which is the case on Qwaider Planet with over 14000 after trimming over 33,000 old posts). I get over 1500 visitors at the same time (sometimes). So imagine 1500, rating 14000 articles all at the same time. Now keep that thought. Imagine doing that for 100,000 posts, 1,000,000 posts. You will get the idea. Instead of accessing the database for writing so many time. You access it once to update the values. And you shave so much time in processing this way.

Thanks for the edu info Qu. I still believe 15 minutes is a lot of lag. I don't believe that setting up a conn to the DB takes that much time >> if you're considering 1 minutes instead of 15 that's quite a difference in how "real time" the Planet appears. Make is as low as possible with a margin of expansion then increase the amount as users increase, but this isn't really scalable in true terms cuz if your visitors increase exponentially then so does the lag.
