Hot teenage kids in tiny wet bikinis, souped up on steroids, breast implants. Not to mention their sultry twentiesh looks which would make anyone think, where the hell were these people when I was in high-school!?
3.5/10 on the Qwaider scale. Ladies, this ain't a chick-flick!
Update: The movie opens everywhere March 14th
If you're a fan of Pride fighting, mixed martial arts combat fighting. you *might* like this one for the amount of brutality involved. The slow mo jaw shattering kicks and punches will provide you with enough thrill to make you feel good. Something people don't regularly see in pride fighting in such details.
However, this movie comes short on just about all categories. For example, it was apparently designed to have mini-plots similar to Cruel Intentions, Fight Club, The Karate Kid and No Retreat No Surrender. But fails on all counts. It fails to have the teenage dramatic dimension of Cruel Intentions. It fails to have the psychological dimension of Fight Club, it fails to have the triumphant tragic come back of the Karate Kid, and fails on the ruthless systematic fighting of No retreat no surrender.
Even worse, on the Martial arts level, there is no agility, or fine martial arts choreography involved! There's just street fight "pounding" of the other guy! Nothing fancy, no beauty, and absolutely no art in Martial Art!
They tried to fake the mini-plot of cruel intentions with the girl friend dragging the "new kid" to get a beating at the extravagant party where he gets humiliated by her boyfriend. They tried to imitate the mini-plot of the alternate father figure of Mr Miyagi in the Karate kid, and the single over booked mother. They tried to imitate the dark comedy behind fight club, and failed miserably on all counts. The romance was barely skin deep, the whole thing felt like a two dimensional emotionless flick
An honorable mention though, Djimon Hounsou is a world class actor and is awesome looking intimidating dude! I think he's the one that kept this train wreck a little bit more tolerable! Such a shame though.
So, to sum up, if you're in the mood to watch a bunch of teenage girls (teenage? Who am I kidding, they looked like they were twenty something super models with perfect bodies, not a single skin issue and no one looked the least ... teenager!),And young men pounding on each other(again who am I kidding, the guys looked like they're almost 30 with cheap makeup). Then this is the movie for you. But otherwise, rent Crouching Tiger Hidden dragon for the 10th time and enjoy the amazing fantasy there!
Kids with no acne, nerds with no glasses, teenagers with no braces and perfect bodies!! huh! I guess I better move to Florida!
Factoid: The original name of this movie used to be "Get some"
Memories....
الله يبارك فيك :) و عقبال عندك , الله يفرح قلبك بنت حلال تسعدك و تسعدها
نهارك سعيد
I never like martial-arts based movies, since most of them are there for a show and don't have much plot.
Now put in teens and this is just a hormonal movie! Definitely not going to watch - I learned my lesson when I went to see "Dead or Alive". That was the end of fighting movies for me.
تسلم و انشالله تكون زيجة العمر و الهنا الك يا رب.. و عقبالنا و عقبال السامعين
KJ,
I understand your frustration. And completely suffer from it too..
Hopefully some more people in Hollywood will get the hint
