Sorry, I'm just delinquent

This is a confession that I have to make. I'm not deaf, I'm not blind. I'm just avoiding the whole Gaza issue. I feel bad about it, and I'm sure many people feel the same. I am not running away from the obligation, I'm being delinquent.

What's going on is so painful, but life needs to go on. I'm sitting this one out. I have all confidence that many people will do a fantastic job, much better than me when it comes to the atrocities that are going on right now

So, to my family in Gaza, I apologize for being delinquent.

Maybe I'm also frustrated, maybe it's fueled by my continues feelings of frailty. Or the never ending pessimism in finding any hope to shift the world conscious to feel the least amount of pity over the people who have been suffering for 60 years, and continue to suffer.

Life, keeps making me feel weaker as I grow older and as I broaden my horizons more. The more I know, the less optimistic I am of the future. It is only getting more complicated. More involved, the dreamy look of childhood that have persisted with me until my third decade is finally eroding. Life as it seams is way more complicated than I thought.

Life goes on, that's what I've learned. As people die in one place, others are celebrating life. Grateful that another day has passed by, and they were lucky to survive through it. Celebrating life by continuing it, enjoying their kids and progressing.

The news continues to be grim. The conscious continue to suffocate under the weight of guilt, yet I can't find words or energy to jump on this battle train.

I'm sure many feel the same, they're sad, frustrated, but have nothing to add. We feel guilty... Would talking about it help? Let me know if you know

Qu, I notice that Arabs are frustrated with themselves for not doing anything and then do nothing about it. I am not going to be a hypocrite and I will say I, too, want to stop this and I don't know how, and all I can do is point the fingers at Arabs who are like me frustrated and powerless.

I think you answered your own question. You have talked about it and how you feel about it and you let it off your chest. People's reactions are different and their capacities to act differ. What you can do is a simple du3a2, if everything else fails.

    Yes, i am with KJ...
What is going on now in Gazza is a part of the huge puzzle of the future of humanity... o lessa r7 yseer afza3 men heek kaman... as we, mslims, christians and jews know, the largest war in the human history will occur in palestine... how near is it? How far? Only God knows... there are very hard things that, although we will hate them to happen, well happen no matter what we do...
It is not a call to surrender to what is happening, its just a reminder so that we don't kill ourselves with sadness and passimism...
No one will be held innocent if we don't feel trajically sorry for what is happening, bs kaman we - as individuals - will never be able to do anything...
And we are not read as nations to do any thing as well, because as groups we still don't know what exactly we want, neither are able to unite under one leadership...
    So 5laeeha 3la Allah!!! O 3end Allah saberhom ma bedee3...
    Q,

I agree with King Abdalla, the United States is the only country that is capable "if it wants to"- to bring this problem to a satisfactory conclusion. So long as the United states is backing off there will be no solution.
Yeah, the United states and politicians are too busy polishing the candidates to even dare say a single word about what's going on. If there was a single Israeli death, you will see them crying for the poor people suffering from terrorism.

It's clear, we can no longer depend on anyone's sympathy, they have none
Even though we are frustrated, our voices join the voices out there that point out the unjust committed against Gaza and its people.

    Naryat, Q,

You know what's interesting, is that I sit about it and think "ok wait a minute, isn't it known that this whole thing will erupt into a large scale war when the Jews reach Makka?".

So I tell my friend this and say "really, why bother, if we know how and where it will end?" to which he replies "yes but we still need to do something now!" and I say "but isn't that just postponing the inevitable?".

I won't be a mufti and won't comment further. I totally sympathize with Q and I understand his sentiments. We won't get sympathy from anyone else. I pray all your families there, if present, remain safe.
I was discussing this with friends earlier today, and one of them was saying:
so and so had a wedding, and were celebrating.

I said, so what ? Gaza has been like this and is likely to stay like this for years. Should we live the rest of our lives in mourning over a tragedy we can do nothing about ?

Quite the opposite, this should help us appreciate what we have even more, and try to make the best of it.

Because after all what is the alternative?
    Qwaider,

True, this sort of thing has been going on for quite a while (although March 1st was the bloodiest single day for more than 10 years). However, we *can* do something about it. The mere fact that we are talking about it is generating more awareness of the issue, which is vital in our condition.

As you must have noticed, there was barely any mention of the civilian massacre in U.S. media, and i believe it is our duty to publicize this. Just talk about it, not in pages, maybe a couple of paragraphs, maybe a couple of sentences (all to what he/she can).

I have mixed feelings about blogging to Arab audience in English, but talking about events such as those in Gaza should be done in English (and other foreign languages if possible .. again, all to what he can).

It turns out that if you blog about this in the Arab blogosphere, your post might be picked up by a non-Arab who is aware/sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, and the story would then be blogged about in non-Arab blogs and so on and so forth...

eh, i am pretty sure i didn't say anything that was already common knowledge, but oh well.

    Q,

you spoke my mind. I am frustrated and sad, it aches to watch all those ppl die- daily! but most of all, i feel very guilty. not for being helpless but more of being thankful that my home country is safe and sound. I can't help it.. selfishness? maybe.

Allah ye7my kil il sha3b il 3araby wo ysabber ahali il shohada2.

    KJ, (after Qwaider's permission :-) )
Sympathy must exixt among us first...
Muslims, Arabs... just open any satellite songs channel and look how cheerful are some... yes it is true that life has to go on... but isn't it time for us to LEARN that we are not the strongest and we are not 100% safe?
Yes, we can do nothing and our lives has to go on, we get married, we graduate, we go to picnics... but did any one notice that we go extreme in fun? Aren't loud parties being held every where? Aren't there night clubs doing their hard work as usual?
We should not wait for any one's sympathy... let's wait for our own sypmathy first!!
