I know it's so cliche. How Americans practically "throw" their kids out once their 18. Some say to help them learn Independence. Others say because they're fed-up with them and others think. Or the parents look for their own Independence. While others think this whole thing is rubbish. It's all lies and no one does that.

Last night, I discovered that. 1) It's not rubbish. 2) Not all people do it, but many do, and 3) The results are catastrophic to say the least! (in my view)

I was filling my car with gas, when two cute little chicks approached me.

I know the likes, they would usually complain that they ran out of gas and forgot their wallet. I say usually because I've seen it happen couple of times. No body usually come ask you for anything while you're pumping gas. It's like your time of solitude as your eyes gaze over the small fortune that is rolling before your eyes.

The girls come by, chuckling, almost shy, and they approach me and say. "Hi sir, do you have some spare change we're trying to buy some condoms"

For a moment, I was thinking and trying to process the sentence. My mind was in disbelief while my ears were sure. The continued with "You wouldn't want us to have unprotected sex, now would you?"

I almost bit my tongue to stop it from saying things like "Only If I get to use them" or "you want me to pay for OTHER guys to have fun?". Or "Why don't you ask those two pimps you're with to buy some for you?". These all raced in my mind trying to bust their way out ... But my teeth kept my tongue in it's position.

The started looking at me with their "suggestive" poppy eyes, and I somehow the answer I used to give to kids who were asking me for cigarettes when I used to smoke popped out. "How old are you?" I said.

Chuckling they said, "We're 18, we swear". I wasn't very convinced. I've read a research recently that women "lying" look exactly like women trying to seduce. (The connection is horrifying if you think about it). And the looks in they're eyes had meanings ... many meanings...

I gave them my usual answer, "sorry, I have no cash on me"

I got in my car, and a million thought raced through my mind. But the only one that stuck was something I read on the grass blog on we (as middle easterners) always presume that people in the west kick out their kids, and how little girls in Arabic schools compose essays on how our strict culture is better than the "loose" west.

I'm not saying strict is better. I'm just contrasting between the two positions.

    Memories....

Qwaider ! u evil evil man ! what if the girls found no money and ended up pregnant , now what will happen to their future ? they  are only 18 !! * I am being sarcastic :P *

I am almost done being 18 and I can tell u that I won't manage without my parents if we were in the same country , at a certain age I am sure I can get rid of them but when I turned 18 I thought things wud be different now that I am legally an adult and stuff but it after a year of adulthood , It is nothing different!

    كثر الضغط يولد الإنفجار
so pushing it won't be good and loose is not good so it should be something in between!
Are you saying, they were trying selling themselves to you,Qwaider?

I do not understand what you are getting at?
You would think a woman my age would understand what goes on in the minds of 18-year-old girls, nowadays, but I don't and I want to stay that way.

But,I would think they must have a difficult situation, on their hand,if they were kicked out of their parent's houses at 18,so difficult in fact, that they would go up to a perfect stranger and ask for a change or offering to sell themselves, which ever the situation was, to a total stranger. And with all the sexually transmitted diseases out there and crimes. You could have been a sadist or a murderer, for all they knew.I hope they will get a decent job, like at Mcdonald's,Wal-Mart or Starbucks they are always hiring, and follow their dreams(that's what I would tell them if they tried to sell themselves to me) to support themelves and they could rent a room together. At 18 I was a chambermaid in Denmark and at 19 a waitress in Norway for instance.I followed my dream, and supported myself at the same time.
    Cthetheir
They had the dudes waiting for them in the car. So I don't think they were at any danger. In addition, this was a gas station, so it's -relatively- safe.
The thought of them offering their services to me didn't cross my mind. But now that you mentioned it. I'm not sure. I hope not! I mean, I think that wasn't it. I'm not so sure anymore!
You got me wrong ! y3nee it was more of : hek ma bt3tehom el money they needed! not that they were selling themselves to u or whatever!

And I know that 18 year olds are not helpless and that they can support themselves in ways that doesn't involve prostitution ! You could have preached the little girls about getting a decent job if they wanted money for condoms!!
Come on, it's only a dollar thirty nine (I checked). You find that in your couch! And I heard many places give them for free here.
Ya3ni they can afford to buy booze with a fake ID but not this?
Still that's not the issue. If it was something essential like say, they ran out of gas, or they're hungry and they need to eat or they need the money for collage or ANYTHING serious! I would have helped. I don't have a problem helping people. I enjoy that, but not .. "to buy cigarettes" or "to buy a beer" or any other stuff like that

You know, if they didn't tell me why, chances are I would have given them some!

how more rude can it get?? whats next??
i am SOOOO with kicking kids out at 18. 5alas bikafeehum dala3. i wud do that to my kids. i left my parents house for uni at 16, and never came back. i was financially independant at 17, and that alone made me mature 150x faster than 'normal' kids that age..

the foundation of a person is (as psychologists state) 75% built at 9 years old. spirituality takes an initial shape and direction at the age of 16, and general principles and values at the age of 18. now to implement all those, it takes another 2 years or so, laheik 21 is senn il rushd. if u raise kids properly, they wont stray even if they were away from u as a parent. they wont. full stop.

I think there's a lot of jumping to conclusions here.

While I have no idea why they'd bring up condoms (better to lie and say the money was for something else), but I seriously doubt they would try to sell themselves at a gas station -- there are much better places for that. Maybe they were just goofing off and seeing how you'd react... teenagers do pointless stuff like that all the time.

I fail to see how being kicked out of the house at 18 has anything to do with this posting. How do you know the girl's living situation?

I was out of my parents house at 16 and I feel that I'm a better man for it today. In fact, most of the people I've met who left their parent's house at an early age and far more hardworking and responsible than those people who stayed with their parents into their 20s.

    Just my 2 cents.
We dont really know the full story on these two girls but if they were kicked out, they maybe trying to make money out of such actions or maybe they're just abusing the freedom they have or maybe they needed the money for drugs. Endless terrible possibilities.

But being too strict could also have terrible possibilites too, suddenly going into the real world without experience or knowledge could be very harmful if the individual's personality isn't stable.

We need to learn a little from both and make a new stratergy that best fits us and gives us the best of outcomes.
At least they had the sense to buy condoms,so as not to have unprotected sex.

I can see why your eyes were gazing at the gas pump,Qwaider, and not the girls, hehe, a little humor there I had to get in,there. You sure took your time, though, looking at them, noticing how cute they were.

Anyhow,I see that gas might go as high as $4.00 a gallon when travelng season hits this summer.

How old are you by the way,Qwaider? Aren't 18-year-old girls a little young for you?Or do you prefer'em extra-young?
This is the second time for your interestingly condescending remarks, so I will let it go.
Actually I'm more into goats if you have any under the age of 15 those would be perfect!
Goats,if that's what floats your boat. Then lets's get a move on it and hit the road.Just kidding.

Sorry I don't have any to offer you and I'm sorry too, if I offended you,I didn't mean to do it.
