You don't have to look far to see many glorious examples of how bloggers change, and continue to change the world. When I heard the words "We're getting in trouble because of the bloggers" from couple of Jordanian officials I knew then and there that we have reached a tipping point that if there is any cause, with enough momentum. That cause will get to the masses. There will be change.

Rest assured that there is a nice bureau monitoring everything that is being said publicly in on the Internet, and possibly privately in chat and just about anywhere. This knowledge can be used for good

As for almost all media watchdogs, they are going over thousands of blogs on a daily bases. The fact that these blogs are published, out there and within reach of everyone on the face of the planet makes them such a powerful tool

I project that at some point, there will be a world blogger congress, so effective that most corporations and governments will attempt to be on it's good side. Bloggers are already convening in Star Trek like geeky conventions. But that's only the beginning

Soon, as more influential writers emerge, people who never had a chance before due to failures in mass media. People who were shut out because of their religious, social or ethnic relations, as these continue to grow, they will eventually become so powerful that every decision maker in the world is going to listen, evaluate, and even possibly obey.

This freedom, that has never been experienced before at any scale. Will change many things. Starting with improved social justice, all the way to influencing voters and decision makers.

Many view blogs as an advertising tool. Which is fine, but there is a greater message to be delivered here. It's like saying that Magazines are advertising tools. They are that, too! But they're not only that!

Lets face it, Blogs have mandated a new writing style on the world. Something that has never been experienced before. The original system of Writer/editor/publisher has been violated and the new one is still struggling, but progressing.

It wont be long before gangs of bloggers transform into the equivalent of states in the world. With much louder voice and much stronger results than all the conventional media. Only time will tell

These tidal forces are going to sweep over every single backward regime in the world, and will eventually overwhelm them into submissions as every issue will be escalated, and bubbled to surface on the Internet for the whole world to see.

I strongly believe that the United Nations need to establish presence for all the bloggers in the world, they should have the task to continue in the Real world, what the bloggers are doing in the virtual world. Investigating and possibly requesting action from governments.

Take Fouad's issue, had the UN, Amnesty international, Red Cross, and all other organizations been paying attention, they would have taken action. Action that would make a difference

To conclude this article, I just want to issue a warning to all the backward oppressive regimes in the world, your time is almost up!

You're relatively right, but in our part of the world this will take more time than we think..
As you already said - and it's well-known- governments are keeping an eye on the blogsphere and whenever they sense a potentially-serious threat they take action b4 it becomes real, take Fu2ad as an example.

But even on the long-run is better than nothing. So, Amen to that :)

You lost me at that paragraph. No such regime would allow "subversive" blogs to continue if they become that powerful. What has protected bloggers living in such countries so far is that they don't reach the "masses" as much as say a newspaper, or tv station.

Jordanian bloggers do not have that POWER. I can say that Egyptions bloggers are doing much better than we do. I can't decide if the future will be better or not

Indeed, you are right!

But also wrong!

Censorship and bans come out of fear, and if blogging blows out of proportions, individual governments will be banning and censoring the activity.

Or they can counter it by making more popular, government-opinionated blogs as if they were written by common folk like you and I.

This is most likely to happen when Darth Kupo has taken over KJ and the Star Tek fanatics will be forcefully converted into Star Wars lunatics, and we shall destroy our governments with light sabers and poo pistols.

Then you will all succumb to my paws!

You know, you will find many orbiting as satellites of the government. But regardless of how popular they get, people will still find the logic behind what the opposition is pitching

I know a bunch of Jordanian bloggers that are just up in arms defending just about everything the government does or says or at least justifying it! Finding the logic behind something is one thing. Defending it blindly is not.

- Qwaider, there's a difference between defending and (not attacking). I've only been here 4-5 years, so I'll be plain-spoken about my assumptions, and you correct me if I'm wrong.

- The name of the country we live in is Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and it is an authentic monarchy, not a constitutional monarchy (that designation is reserved for countries like the UK and Spain where the royal families remain for ceremony and tradition).

- In a sense both the government and the parliment are for consultation. The minister change with the political seasons, the undersecretary within the ministry is usualy the one with some influence since they stick around for the next "season".

- While some seem to take comfort in venting their anger against the government. Since the Government isn't really in power, an attack against the Government is actually an attack against the monarchy.

Actually, I think the government is there for target practice. They are out there to be blamed for everything. A way for people to vent out their frustrations. Without having to go to lengths and criticizing anywhere above
Then you have morons who think that everything good, wise ...etc comes only from the top. And I have to admit there were a bunch of great stuff descending from the top
But here's the thing....
A government that doesn't know how to make their own goddamn mind on it's own is nothing more than a bunch of kids in kindergarten

So there you have it. A government for everyone to shout at and blame for everything

Anyway this is proliferating!
