My new mentor, a very respectable member of the society, and a college professor. He has such an amazing personality. He was such a dreamer, he is from middle eastern origins and he started telling me how eager he was to graduate and go back home to serve his nation

    That was 28 years ago.

I can't help but wonder, what is it about our middle eastern countries that drives people out like that!

It took only few brushes with the authorities, the social norms, the prejudgement of society and family, and most if not all decide to flee

Frustration after frustration, starting from income levels to mass social discontent to more sinister corrupt government official abusing their powers and their authority.

All of this boils down to one simple question for me, am I going to end up like that?!

    Memories....

You are wondering "Am I going to end up like that?" but many of us in Jordan with all of this frustration we are wondering "Can't we find a better country to get that shit IMMIGRATION?"

I think this emigrations will change our country in our eyes we may see it after a while as a "Mother who is devouring her children"

I can say from experience that if you do have family outside Jordan, it makes it a lot easier for you to stay away and not go back.

But I'm one of those who don't have any family outside Jordan, and I have been in the US for 9 years, and I've finally decided that I have to go back and try to make it there. It's not about "serving my nation" to me. It's just about being between my family, living with my parents through my adulthood like they lived with theirs.

The probability of me achieving more things here is definitely higher than in Jordan. I can make more money, qualify for more jobs and have a lot of things accessible easily, but I never found happiness here. I can start a new family, but I really don't wanna lose my current one, and I wanna get closer to them, not farther.

So finally, after 9 years, I've decided that I'm going to apply for a graduate degree and go to school once more full time and finish my goal of getting a master's, and after that I'm going home to Jordan. I'm not even gonna consider other places in the Middle East. I'm just gonna stay in Jordan.

Even if I had to live most of my life in survival mode, I think in the end I will have achieved a more profound level of satisfaction being where I feel I belong.
I want to end up in Jordan, I'm optimistic that one day it will start to get better. America was one day one shitty place but people have changed it.
someone would think the more you spend abroad, the more you'd miss home and want to go back. But I think it's in the contrary..as the years pass by it will be harder to go back. It's either you go back after a year, two, or maximum 5..  or NEVER!
Well Personally I feel, that part of the reason things are not changing in our part of the world, is due to the fact that the people who know what things should look like are running away. so we are left mostly with the people who don't know what their rights are and what things should look like. so the more people run away the longer things will stay put!

we all say that when we r out here...but come to reality, we cannot do it...it is hard and it is enough we adjust on vacation, but for good...i dnot think so....but as to have  somesort of inner peace, we keep telling ourselves and OTHERS "yeah we r going settle back home one day!!"....but deep down inside that planning for that special day never happens...and yeah with this inflation happening now...i cannot even afford it there now!!!

If my family ( including extended like cousins and uncles ) were outside Jordan I would never come back. It has been only 2.5 years for me here in the US, and everytime I go back to visit ( twice a year ) all I hear is people complaining and bitching about life in Jordan, and the prices going up and the loss of social values. If I go back, I will psychologically destroyed and I will not be able to help my country. I think I am more useful to Jordan when I am away from it.
Hareega, yes they made it into a decent place (at least for Americans), but that took oh 400 years. Will you wait that long :)
I came back to Amman last August after 6 years living outside. I feel now it was some "fake" nostalgic feelings. Wherever we go in this world we do have issues of belonging, living out of place ... maybe this is our destiny? We usually put our families and countries first in many of our life decissions. Maybe thats what we should all do, go back and build this country and make a difference?

I had to make a decission, will I live in two worlds and always think about coming back like your mentor always feel. Or just go back now? I knew that I shall go back one day, and it's better to go back today than tomorrow.

So Qwaider you should follow me and come back here :)
    2.5 more years
    Why exactly 2.5 ?
I have a goal to achieve :) After that ... I'm probably coming back
