I FMNL hate Taxes! And who doesn't? Ever since I arrived in the good US of A and uncle Sam has been taking a huge chunk of my paycheck to finance all their goddamn wars. Well, I finally received my2007 W2's (These are the little slips that show how much you made, how much you paid taxes ...etc) And you know what, and it's ugly! I paid the yearly salary of 3 well paid employees in Jordan, just in goddamn taxes!

Single people get hit the worst with Taxes. Luckily, I made one heck of a great choice. The only choice for single people....

I decided few years back that I'm going to buy a house! And what a great decision that was, tax wise. Of course better choices are to get married and have lots of kids. So for 2007 that part ain't gonna happen!

In some states, sales tax count for tax deduction, it used to be like that over here, although, I'm not sure it's still in effect for this year. And I still need to prepare for my visit to my CPA. So to pay less taxes, you have to buy more "stuff"

It's mind boggling when I think I could have bought a decent car with the amount of Taxes that I paid last year ALONE! Over the years, it amounts for a decent villa in the heart of Abdoun! All went to finance a war here, or another stupid thing there.

I guess it's no secret the IRS here are hated and feared more than the Police, the CIA and the FBI all combined. And there is no other agency in the world that is hated more.

I guess something like, bite my flesh and don't bite my loaf of bread somehow means something now.

Ok so advice to single people with huge Taxes:

    1) Buy a house, it was the greatest tax relief I got

    2) Get married

    3) Have kids!

    4) Put some money in an IRA retirement savings accounts

    5) Join health care flexible spending plans

    6) Claim donations you made to charities

    7) Deduct a portion of your transportation expenses

    8) Have your employer deduct the Medicare portion of your salary from your gross income

    9) Claim eligible travel expenses, educational expenses, business meals, losses as a result of damage or theft or fire

    10) If itemizing isn’t the best route to go try the standard deductions

There many lawful ways available to reduce the burden of your tax obligations. Consult the various IRS publications available on their website.

This is really a problem that every body ( except illegal people ) suffer from. Now here is the thing: most of the tax we pay goes for Social. Sec. that goes to senior citizens who have nothing to do in their life other than driving luxury cars , increasing traffic because of their STUPID driving, make more accidents, let you wait on Walmart's regiter line for an hour going to the bank every month to et their(our) paycheks, and finally talk rude to you ( because you have to respect them regardless what stupid things they say or do ) .

That is not it yet! guess what ? studies say that after around 10 years , there will be no enough funds for S.S so there will be no paychecks every month to seniors....which will be US!!!so here it goes:
you spend your life working as a M... F.. to pay for those seniors and when you become 65 years old.... you wont be paid a penny !!!

So it is not only war! it is that American people are really kind of stupid when it comes to protesting for their rights .... (( I guess people in Ma'an are more courage than them ))
QWAIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wrote a LONG comment and when i wanted to check my spelling, TAAAAAAAAAR... WAAAAAAA3, walahi i didn't do any thing!!
    Hareega
Yes man, apparently we all are :(
Apartments here are all in the $1300 range or Higher, so paying the same amount (or a little bit extra) shouldn't be a big deal. But the houses here are crazy too. Their prices are sky-high.

    Hatem
You're HIRED! You're officially my personal tax consultant .. thanks for the tips
    But there's a little catch!

    4) IRA
Already maxed out and can't put more :(

    5) Health FSA, can't take advantage of that, it's use it or lose it. And still -thank god- have nothing to use it on. Besides, I pay like $1000 in health insurance a month to cover everything. So ...

    6) I do .. but anything above $500 need to be scrutinized beyond belief. (I still get some) besides most of my donations are overseas to people who REALLY need them

    7) Transportation, all paid for (good and bad I know)

    8) Already done

    9) :( All paid for by my employer or insurance... I can't open my mouth

    10) When you have a mortgage, itemization is the way to go. Standard gives me nothing :(

    Fatto7
Actually Social security is about 1/3 of the taxes here. There are MORE .... ya 7abeebi... more!
And People in Maan do have more courage .. Salute to the whole south!

I hear, it's even WORSE in Canada

    Maioush
Sorry, I don't know what to say. I didn't have anything to do with it. But I promise you to find some sort of solution for this issue ..

oh, boy...u just reminded me, but the only way out, was to get married even teh last day of 2007, then u would have got alot of tax return for the whole 2007...anyway, do it this year and u can always give money for donation, like for the mosque and get some deduction in retrun....not much, but worth it...u can also add ur business expenses like traveling if u pay for it from ur own pocket....there r so many deductions, but u need to look into it, they even ask me for my son's tuition fees...!!!
    good luck...

Get married and get kids. The government will be paying you by the time you have your third one.
oh my god, I HATE TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously.. how is it that people in the lower tax brackets actually pay MORE tax than those who earn more? That is such an effed up system!

On the other hand, when I look around at the clean roads, the well maintained parks, the free municipal services (public library anyone?), the safety of my city from fires and crimes and the generally efficient way my city works, I really have no problem paying taxes since they *are* put to good use (most of the time!)....
I just wish it was more porportional to income level... sigh
Great advice... i hope i would not get married or have kids only to save taxes!
    Afaf
Yeah, getting married will take care of that. But too late I guess for 2007 :)

    انونيموس
You think? I should probably do that

    Tinkerbella
Don't forget financing the war and the awesome American allies in the middle east. And that will give you an even worse bitter taste in your mouth. I think. All of this stuff will not account for the amount of taxes I am paying. I mean. For the taxes I paid in one year I can afford to make my own road from home to work (I live only 5 minutes away)

    Madas
    :)
No no ... I was being sarcastic, It's like I'm being punished because I'm single! It feels like that!
