I was waiting for someone to jump out and say, "You're on candid camera" as the wife of a PhD holder handed me couple of talismans that she asked me to deliver to her daughter back in the US. Very long denouncement statements along with huge amounts of protest were being formulated in my mouth and getting ready to burst out in flames in their own house when I decided to bite my tongue as hard as I can. Causing one of my eyes to twitch in a crazy way, while the other one was tearing from the amount of mental trauma I was going through.

    Talisman - حجاب
This "religious" sudoku is expected to bring you good fortune

"This one eases the birth process", "This one helps produce more breast milk", "This one has copper and lead to battle the evil eyes", and "this one makes the baby grow larger"....etc

I look again in disbelief at their faces, looking for any hint of sanity, and all I get is serious faces and someone reassuring me that most of these are "Verses from the Quran", so they won't hurt...!

God I envy my atheist friends at this moment.

You can place the whole Quran on a women during delivery, and nothing will happen! A talisman (7ijab) is NOT going to do anything for anyone even if it had the secrets of the universe written on it!

You would expect in this day and age that educated people have outgrown from the dark ages of witchcraft and the magic-of-the-written-words for the masses who couldn't read. Of all people you would expect an educator, a PhD holder, and his wife to be the first people to combat this religious hallucination by figuring out what's science and what's mambo jumbo. But sadly, this wasn't the case.

    This explains a lot!

This explains to me the source of the mass retardation I see in people. When these idiotic behaviors find their way to the most educated segment of the society, what in the world is left for normal people?

And yes, it DOES hurt the baby to have LEAD and COPPER next to their fragile body, just ask any Medical doctor and they will tell you about the effects foreign heavy metals on baby growth and development. Make sure you as a Medical doctor, and a witch doctor!

God, I envy my atheist friends right now!

(Just an fyi, the Islamic position on these matters is simple. Believing that any object is going to bring you good fortune, or protect you from evil is a form of shirk and idol worship)

    Memories....

mom once handed me a 7ijab and insisted that its just part of the quran and no matter how hard i tried to convince her otherwise, mafee 7ad berod, anyway, i opened the sealed piece of clothing (that had the papers with quran inside of it in addition to some sort of herb!) and i started reading when i felt there was something wrong at one stop, i swear i just had the feeling the letter was misplaced although i never memorized it by heart! fata7t el quran only to find out i was right! khothlak, i threw it away and told mom, shoftee shoftee?!
by the way, i think it is also common in africa and some indians to have old habits and behaviors solve problems and protect from evil, believe it or not (inta 7or) not all of it is hellucinations, some things are valid, they have proven to work for ages for those ppl and although only a small part of it actually cauases the "evil" to go away, but they kind of got stuck with it, we in islam have been told what works and what doesnt, so making up new things that dont have a proof from Prophet Mohammed is beda3, w kollu bed3aten 7aram
ba3dein la7za shwai, u envy the athiest? leih yakhoy u dont believe they have hellucinations of their own? mosh hathol taba3oon "whisper in my ear for good luck!" :)

Lol @ (I was waiting for someone to jump out and say, "You're on candid camera")

If I was you I would not do them the favor of transporting such mambo Jumbo ...

Mariam Ayyash ..what do you mean? there is mambo jumbo that works, and the prophet told us to works, I feel I miss understood something in your comment
