Memories....
I will try to explain to you why they issued this fatwa. There was studying say that 80% of Arabs use internet for sexual matter. These scholars think that women are a reason for tempting man because of the difference in desires between them. However I would like to hear from these schaolars not to forbid the internet but they should warn them about the dangerous in this technology.
Guys, most of you and your family were exposed to western culture and can deal with the new developments. But in our areas, man gets married to women without seeing her. Other women do not answer phone if it is not from her husband. Do you think are these people ready to cope with new world. The answer is No.
You know it will be great idea if we invent something called Halal internet. it will filter everything not islamic or decent, why not?
re ahmad: you say "80% of Arabs use internet for sexual matter". As an Arab, I am well aware of our culture's shortcomings.. however, I think your statement is WRONG. First of all, I would like to know where you got this statistic, or did you simply round up a bunch of Arabs and asked them how they used the internet and simply extrapolated at that?
The truth is, most guys, no matter their culture, use the internet to look for sexual content, unless their mother and/or wife/gf has enacted a screen to filter such content or monitors web usage to ensure he doesn't look at such content. The other deterrant are morals and/or religion, which prevent a male from looking at such content.
However, the percentage of females who look at such content is very VERY low, which is why the completely ridiculous "fatwa" makes it seem even more BS.
And by the way, all the situations you quoted are stupid cultural backwardness that have nothing to do with religion. This pathetic excuse for a fatwa drags religion into the issue.
I don't see why people think they need to turn to scholars for guidance.God have you a brain and said you don't need any other thing besides your heart to reach Him. Use your brain, act fromt he heart. WHy is that so hard?? Why do people have to turn to such idiotic schoalrs to justify their idiotic actions???
THERE ARE something like 1.5 billion Muslims and 2 billion Christians and 1 billion Hindus. and if you think they are all sane and rational people, then you are not being realistic. If in each group there is 1% of lunatics and extremists, that's about 10 million lunatics in each religion. that's lots of lunatics who can polloute the world with their lunatic views.
SO DON'T START CONDEMNING HUNDREDS OF MILLION OF PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THE ACTS OF 1% OF THEIR FANATICS, MORONS, AND ASSHOLES.
THE FACT EVERY IDIOTIC ACT COMMITTED BY A MUSLIM GET THE SPOTLIGHT OF SCRUTINY HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH ISLAM AND MUSLIMS AND MORE TO DO WITH A PREVAILING ANTI-MUSLIM ENVIRONMENT.

Besides, just because all these people who live in Cairo (not necessarily all Arab!) were looking for sex online, doesn't mean this was the only thing they were doing online!
