Eid mubarak to all SANE Muslims out there, the Eid has been announced in Mecca to be December 19th 2007. People are currently en route to perform the holiest of Islamic rituals, the Hajj, where millions will be at Mecca performing the religious pillar of Islam.

But the visionary Muslims of north America (Who no one in the world cares about) decided that the millions of people performing hajj, and the ENTIRE ISLAMIC WORLD is wrong, and that the Eid will be on the 21st! 2 days AFTER everyone else.

Shariah Board of America and  Hilal Committee of Greater Chicago have announced that No Moon Sighted anywhere in North America so Zul-Qadh will complete its 30 days and Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 is the first day of Zul-Hajjah. Inshallah Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday December 21st, 2007.
    http://www.shariahboard.org  (Not a permalink)

Not only are they ridiculing the millions in Mecca but also the Billions of Muslims around the world. My god, is there ANY greater disarray? Is there anything that spells out disorder between Muslims?!

It's not like this is Ramadan and you have to either fast tomorrow or have Eid tomorrow, this is 10 WHOLE DAYS AHEAD of the Eid. My god 10 days and we can't get our stuff together and declare Eid with the people performing the ritual!?

This is not the first time this has happened, I have talked about it here, here and several other places. But this is the epitome of idiotic, chaotic and even border line insanity!

What were the Muslims in the so called Shura council thinking? Isn't the sighting or none sighting really irrelevant in this case? It's well known Fiqh fact that if people are travelling and they arrived to a country where they have already fasted they would fast with them? Fine, then you have 10 freakin DAYS to make up your mind if you're in doubt!

I'm sick of these tit-for-tat crap. I'm sick of Some Muslims claiming the religious and moral high-grounds. I'm SICK of people continuously finding something that differentiates them in matters that REQUIRE consolidated UNITY you morons! I will not shut up about it!

Every time I raise this issue, someone "Shuts me up" that they don't want any trouble. WHAT!!? I'm not shutting up and you freakin morons don't even know how to follow the people performing HAJJ how can you tell me what I should be doing in my house or if something is Halal or Haram!

    What a bunch of lunatics!

Anyway, Eid mubarak to all, I WILL BE Celebrating it WITH THE MUSLIMS ... IN MECCA!

anyhow, i will b back home celebrating with my family there....
so eid mubarak to u and all ppl around here...
    peace...
"I'm SICK of people continuously finding something that differentiates them in matters that REQUIRE consolidated UNITY"... for once, I 100% agree with you

if Muslims can't unite on these simple things, then they will never suceed in antyhing... so sad wallahi.

The masjed here actually proclaimed Eid to be Wed, as it is in Mecca...thank GOD!!

this is pathetic!! 3an jad im so sick of this...i have made a decision that i will always fast and 3ayed with mecca..they are the center of islam...and we only have one moon for earth for allah's sake..sheesh!
honestly I don't think its such a bad thing really, since Eid is different for the ones that want to do hajj that the ones that are staying at home.
naturally eid is set my saudi arabia but for the people in the states wouldn't it mean that they should celebrate it as a community and enable it so it won't be difficult for the community to celebrate it together and that my be the reasoning behind placing it on a friday rather than mid week on wednesday does my reasoning make sense or is it read as blasphemy ?

I pray I could celebrate eid in makkah itself & get all my sins washed away.. And us all.. Amen.

But sadly, it can't be this eid :(

    Alhamdulillah :)

May you have a blessed time this eid with all your loved ones Sam :)

    With respect,

PS. wish my bro was here :(
Whenever it is remembered and celebrated, may you have a blessed Eid, Qwaider!
    Assalaamu alaikum,

According to the opinion of Sheikh Uthaymeen (Rahimahullah), and Sheikh ul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (Rahimahullah) Muslims are supposed to follow their own moon sighting for both Ramadhaan and Dhul-Hijjah.  There is no disunity in doing so.  By doing it two days later, it doesn't mean we are saying the millions of Hujjaj are falling into error!

"If the moon rises at the same point for two countries they become like one country, so if it is sighted in one of them that ruling applies to the other. But if the rising points differ, then each country has its own ruling. This is the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him);"

Anyways!  'Eid mubarak!  InshaAllah you have an enjoyable and wonderful 'Eid! :D
I'm well aware of Ibin-Uthaymeen fatwa. I find it completely wrong as it doesn't take into account the advances we made today in the fields of communications.
He would have been right in a different time. But in this day and age, he's wrong. We're able to know ahead the minute it's declared any where in the world.

The fact that some scholars decided something doesn't mean it's the ultimate truth. I'm sorry, they are not. Even if it was one of the Sa7aba who made this, he might have been wrong as well.
bass according to science and technology, isnt it possible that one country does see the moon across and the other sees it a day later? especially now that we live on a ball? :)
anyway, sighting is fard kefayeh 3ala 7ad 3elmee, even with technology, someone must go up there and try to spot it, now to eliminate doubt, this someone can be someone authorized, and he can use some technology to detect the moon, bass el mohem we should never rely on speculations and decide the moon ahead of time (we can forecast, but not depend on it)

I understand your frustration, but you are definitely generalizing when it comes to Muslims in the US. I think the group you are referring to is in the minority. I know we have a lot of issues, but we tend to be united on the 2nd Eid. This is the official statement from the Fiqh Council of North America:
Muslims in America as well as in many other parts of the world hold two different opinions about the observance of Eid al-Adha. Some observe it on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah according to their local lunar date and others follow the announcement of Hajj by the authorities in Makkah and celebrate this Eid after the day of ‘Arafah.  The Fiqh Council has been struggling with this issue for some time.  After careful study and consideration, the Council has reached the conclusion that Eid al-Adha will be following the Day of Hajj as announced in Makkah. This is also the conclusion of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (EFCR).
Thank Moi, and I agree with you that this is the minority and I referred to their action as idiotic
If you check the link I provided in the article, you will notice that the Shura council, didn't change their minds. And that goes for all the mosques that follow them

So sadly, it's still happening, and I'm so sad it does.

    AOA ALL,

I REALLY HAVE TO APPRECIATE CONCERNS AND COMMENTS OF ALL BROTHERS.
IT IS NICE TO SEE CONCERN OF ALL ABOUT SUCH AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF ISLAM,
    WHICH HAS BECOME AN ISSUE.

HERE IS A HADITH FROM SAHIH BUKHARI TO SUPPORT:

    ************************************************************************
    Volume 3, Book 31, Number 130:
    Narrated Abdullah bin Umar:

Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) mentioned Ramadan and said,
"Do not fast unless you see the crescent (of Ramadan),
and do not give up fasting till you see the crescent (of Shawwal),
but if the sky is overcast (if you cannot see it),
then act on estimation (i.e. count Sha'ban as 30 days)."
    ************************************************************************

    *>*>
IT IS YEAR 1428 HIJRI, FOR PAST MOREA THAN THIRTEEN HUNDRED YEARS
WORLD OF ISLAM WAS FOLLOWING ABOVE AND WAS HAPPY AND PEOPLE EVERY YEAR
    WERE OBSERVING EIDs HAPPILY.
    <*<*

NOW CAN WE UNDERSTAND WHY WE ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS.

    Thanks for reading.

I am a Muslim in North America and we celebrated the Eid with the rest of the world.  You can't make such a general statement about us like you did.
Dude, You're among the good ones who are NOT idiots..
I'm talking about the ones who celebrate it differently. You know them, you have them in your society..
You too can have your Memories Documented
