One of the subjects I'm currently taking in university is Strategic Management. Our class has been divided into a number of groups and each group has to do a field research on one of 3 Jordanian companies. My group has been assigned to Royal Jordanian Airlines. So my team mate and I went to their office today and I can't believe how we were treated.
First of all, it took us forever to reach the offices which are located in the Iskan complex in Shmeisani. We'd go to one person and they'd send us to another person who would refer us to another person. Ugh! They drove us crazy! Not to mention that they didn't give us much attention. Once they found out why we were there, they gave us this weird look. Then they sent us to sit in a room and wait for the person in charge to come and talk to us.
We sat there and waited. Not knowing who to expect. Everyone that passed by stared at us as if we were aliens or something. Then finally a guy came and asked us what we needed. We told him that we're doing a research and we need blah blah blah and information. He listened to everything I had to say and then looked at me and said "Hala2 jeeto?" (Now you come?) As if we're insane. I didn't understand what he meant, and judging from the look on my friend's face, neither did she.
He then looked at me and said "I advise you to choose another company". We were like "WHAT? WHY?" and he said "We don't have time for this". "It's the end of the year and we're busy". "We have balances to take care of and things". "People barely have enough time to sleep". "None of the workers have time to sit and talk with you". As simple as that. He was so rude! Even his tone and attitude while talking to us. As if he was talking kids. I honestly felt belittled by him. As if he looked down upon us, as if we're not worthy of his precious time. I just stood there in disbelief... staring at him. Was this guy serious? I showed him a paper from my university signed by my professor, but he didn't care. We were seriously offended.
My professor warned us that RJ might give us a hard time, but I never expected to be treated in this way. Unbelievable and so rude! I honestly feel that they are unworthy of my time. I'm sure other companies would be more than happy to help us and would encourage us. With people like this, Jordan will never become a civilized country. We are the future! We're studying so we can build ourselves and become successful people.
People like that man only discourage us students. We need to apply what we learn in class to truly understand what we are being taught. I'm so angry! The rest of the team wants to try again through some people that they know at RJ, but I am no longer motivated to work on this company after this experience. I intend on speaking to my professor tomorrow in hopes of changing the company we are working on. Such people do not deserve any effort to be spent on them!
Memories....
ya3ni there are many ways..bas mu heik!
good luck with ur next company :)
You sound like a 2 year old toddler. Did they take your toy from you and now you're crying? Boo hoo hoo
Isn't it enough that you're wasting their time. with your .. games? People are trying to work there and you're upset that they didn't help1? What did you expect? Someone put you on their lap and have someone do your work for you??
Grow up!
Saraab is prob right, they know that they do shoddy work, n they dont want to ifda7 7alhom and of course, the arab practice of having useless "managers" that far outnumber the ppl who actually work...ugh.
It really is so sad, you look at companies here who invite college students to intern at the companies so they can learn the workings of how the "real world" works an apply what they have learned theoretically (the only way to really learn!). In fact, companies often offer paid internships, as they not only allow ppl to learn about the company's work but also train them so that they can one day work and integrate successfully into such a company.
Now if only we could apply sth like that back in Jordan, having the current business leaders teach the future business leaders. Balash... perhaps we can simply learn their manners, manners that are actually required of us by our very own religion!!! bs we are too concerned with applying the more important American ways of clubbing and dressing to be concerned with silly ideas of business practices and manners.
Very sad wallahi
fire-faten: your comment was unnecessary. I have every right to be upset because we were treated in a very rude way and as you can see many people agree. I am surprised by your ignorance "People are trying to work there and you're upset that they didn't help1? What did you expect? Someone put you on their lap and have someone do your work for you??"
I am doing my work myself, I only need some information which I can only get from them in order to do my research and analysis of the company. This has been assigned to me by my university professor so we may learn to apply what we are taught. I assure you it's no fun and games.
The company has a social responsibilty to open doors for students who are learning to work in the world of business. RJ should feel honored that we choose them as an example to learn from. Even if they didn't have the time, he could have said it nicely!
tinkerbella: I know! Everything here in Jordan is complicated.

So true and indeed so sad! If things stay like this, we'll never progress and be a well developed country.
Deemco, you shouldn't get upset or frustrated. This is how things are when you're asking things from people. You will need to go back there over and over and tolerate their bayakha until you get what you need. Remember YOU need them. YOU need the mark, not them. They don't care, and it's obvious. Rude or not, you still need them
Your University professor has no jurisdiction at RJ, He is also appealing to them to assist, he's not their CEO or someone with authority over them, he can't do more than -nicely- ask. And they have the right to say no!
No company feels that they have a responsibility towards anyone. It's voluntary. If they don't want to help, it's their right and prerogative. People can't argue with you when you're well within your rights.
If they are "mish fadyeen" Try again some other time. If they're not willing to cooperate then there is really nothing you can do here. And I don't find it rude at all. It's they're right. We're just not used to hearing NO, Mish fadeelak in our society!
So if you are interested. Contact me and i shall talk to my father about it.. :)
dont know what does x.28 company means though! :s
