Foot in mouth moment!

I have no idea why I'm so nosy. I seriously have no clue.

I was preparing my afternoon cup of yummy nescafe (not the crappy Starbucks stuff they had in the kitchenette) and a lady was cooking something in the microwave. And the whole kitchen smelled of something yummy!

She was done, got a little bag out of the microwave oven and started trying to open it. Because it was hot she was a bit slow. Then I had to open my big mouth and ask, What is that!

And a lightning bolt came blazing through my head....

It's a nursing pump! Answered the nice lady.

I didn't quite get it! I had an empty look on my face while my cerebrum processed all possibly entries of the words... "Nursing pump" and as fast as the human brains work. I drawing a blank!

Then she explained. "You know, they pump milk out for the babies". My brain went on another journey through all the books I read and all the scifi inventions that I have seen in the movies. And I viewed myself like Neo when he met the Architect, a million questions racing through my head one was "Why pump milk?"... "Where do you get the milk from?" ... "Where do you pump the milk out of" ... and .... I think my brains rebooted at that moment because all I was thinking of after that was ... OH CRAP!!!! That's an HR Violation waiting to explode!

I did the only thing I know when things turn in this direction, I naturally apologized, and started wishing I wasn't there, or that the ground would swallow me or something. But .. none of that worked!

The lady was nice, smiled and said.. no no .. it's ok .. this is something that blah blah blah .. got balah blah blah ... for the blah blah... All I was thinking of ... was "I thought this smells good ...." and she continued blah blah blah ...

I didn't know if it was guilt or shame .. but somehow .. I found myself in my meeting room... drawing a completely "DOH" blank face!

well, FYI, it smells and tastes good...and it is effected by mom's diet!
just i thought u should know!!!
beside i donot get the fact that ppl r disgusted whenever that thing is mentioned...as if they didnot completly survived on it the first 6 months of their lives...geeeeeeee....

Maraim, if you could undeerstand it , please explain it to me. a women heated her milk in microwave during work time where their colleagues were aroudn her.
It does not make sense, who will drink her milk? why? has she got a baby? if she has .. why it was embarrassing. i think that either you are pretending this story is fuuny for being polite or i need time to understand it.

Ahmad, it was the nursing pump not the milk itself, she was pumping so she will give it her baby when she goes home!

LOL Afaf.. yeah the nursing pump, to sterilize it, and i know that cuz i saw it recently :)
women who breast feed has to pump every 2 hours, and she has to sterilize it after every pump, wash it and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes with water :D
i learn all that when i stayed with the twins for 3 months :D

yeah i used to sterilize it with boiling water, i never believe in microwave thingy though...
thanx for the tips...see u learned something from staying with twins...so u will be ready when u have ur own kids inshalla...

Why are you guys looking at me for answers!! I have no idea why it was happening.
She was "cleaning" the pump thing in the microwave. Somehow it kills the bacteria and makes it sterilized as Maioush said

I felt embarrassed because I [thought] that I've put the lady in an embarrassing situation. But looks like it wasn't really that embarrassing since it's really a normal natural thing.

I didn't feel disgusted. I just felt ... well .. embarrassed :/
