This is one spectacular flick that is not short on talent but falls completely short when it comes to story telling. The movie has stunning imagery and breathtaking fore and backgrounds not to mention that anything in between is so brilliantly laid out that it blows your mind when you see it!
6.5/10 on the Qwaider scale, yet this one is a definite must see
Opens in theaters everywhere this coming Friday the Nov 17th
I had the pleasure of watching the Digital-3D edition at the IMAX and WOW! The image, graphics and dimensions Literally springs to life in your face!
Think of this movie as lord of the rings. Only darker, more violent and compressed into 1 hour 55 minutes! At times, you feel that the story does need a little bit more room. Especially Angelina Jolie's part. But more on that later
The story is originally an Anglo-Saxon legend of a warrior who lands somewhere in Denmark around the 5th century at a city being terrorized by Grendel a fierce creature that can't be killed. So big and so strong that tens of men couldn't kill it. If that's not scary enough. He has to also deal with the beast's mother. And a fire-breathing dragon set to kill his wife and ... ehm ... bed mate!
Geeks: This movie is your chance to get up close an personal with Angelina Jolie's nicely sculptured body! This is a first class, first raw ticket to see her butt up close and personal. Think of it as the "Brad Pitt" view. And if that's not enough wait till the camera pans over the length of her body from head to toe as she is covered only with water and liquid gold. And even that is sliding off as the camera pans. A visual delight (And arguably the highlight of the whole movie, since she's the only thing tat doesn't seem to be computer graphics manipulated). Angelina makes one hell of a demon. With built in high-heels, and 30 feet long hair that she can control! Wow!
The makers "tried" to have a similar influence on the ladies by showing the hero "Beowulf" naked and fighting Grendel. It was an Austen Powers moment as every time Beowulf's "third leg" as one of the ladies in the movie described, it gets covered with something. The amount of cheese would put Denmark cheese industry to shame! Just think of Austen Powers with the visual effects of the 300!
If you thought lord of the rings was far fetched. This one is 10 times more ridiculous at times!
Never the less, the movie is very entertaining and I personally consider it a MUST see! If I have to sum up, I would say, this is the most spectacular crappy movie I've ever seen! But remains a MUST see!
I keep thinking if the Beowulf didn't keep shouting "I AM BEOWULF... And I'm going to kick your ....... " It would've been much cooler!
Memories....
