Awkward: Arabs admitting mistakes and asking for help

A reader was so surprised when she sent an Email to one of the Arab bloggers. Asking the person to correct something in his  writing style. She was surprised to see that he actually replied vowing to attempt to fix whatever was wrong and work on his style. So she replied back to him that saying that she was not being sarcastic or disrespectful.

And then it occurred to her that he was in fact sincere on his attempts to improve himself. And his unusual (but respectful) response caught her off guard and made her believe that he was making fun of her.

So she sent the whole idea to me asking me to write about it. And I couldn't be any more grateful for such an opportunity.

When did we as bloggers become so high up in our writing bubbles that the mere idea of accepting feedback or criticism became such a taboo. And is this something limited to the Arab bloggers or the whole nation of writers?

Apparently it's unusual for Arab bloggers to take advice or notes on their style. It's possible that it's due to preconceptions that we had for so long about people. And how we need to approach matters. Some will continue to think that it's a shame to admit mistakes or consider improving. Or even that it belittles them

Truth is, the more accepting to feedback we are, the more people feel at ease discussing matters with us. I know I for one have been historically rigid about some of my ideas. But that's completely because I believe in what I write (at least most of the time). On couple of occasions someone was successful in getting through to me and making me understand a matter from a completely different angle.

Anyway, I guess the point is, lets keep surprising the world with how accepting and accommodating we can be

And for that lady and her blogger friend. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Well, I'm sure she would be totally stunned by his great sense of understanding & acceptance.. I mean, who's like that?

I myslef think I'd accept any kinda correction ACCORDING TO THE WAY it was proposed..

Anyways.. Way to go to that Arab blogger :)

I'm sure he's the winner at the end :)  Not holding grudges against & having hard feelings towards the "opposites/others" is one of the best PEACE of mind one can reach..

May he show the world what true love & respect is.. Amen :)

    With respect,
Well, that is really weird, I mean someone asking her to fix the writing style.. I do not mind critisicm as long as it's not personal..
I dont mind help and i will say thank you.

Not so long ago, I was not very familiar with the Arab blogosphere. When I started my current blog I have tried approaching many Arab bloggers cause I was looking for writers to join me. I wasn't exactly criticizing them, on the contrary, I was complementing them on their good writings. About %80 of them didn't even bother to reply to me.. not even a sorry I can't do it reply, which gave me the impression that this is one stuck-up blogosphere, and I can only imagine how those can react to criticism. I will accept criticism as long as it's not trying to change my style completely. If I don't like what's been proposed to me, I will at least appreciate the effort the person took to express their thoughts about my writing.

By the way.. I was looking for a way to contact you, is there a contact form or an email that I can't see? I've tagged you on my last post and I'm hoping you can find the time to check it out :)
Oops! I have no contact form here, but I will make one soon (you can always leave me a whisper)
