People are using the term "Open source" extremely loosely! And the lines have been blurred ever more with Microsoft releasing the source code for .NET while Mac is really not source code. Suse, Sun, Novell, Sco, IBM and many others engaging in a battle over patents and Steve Ballmer threatening to sue open source for stealing patented work..
It's really a BIG fat mess!

Anyway, Im going to tell you something.. I got my MAC three months ago, and the minute I had it, i knew for sure I will never use anything but MAC! Once you have it you'll never replace it with anything else...
No matter what you say, or what the world would say.. once you have a MAC, you'll always have it!
I had macs, Linux boxes, and just about anything that looks like a PC. I'm not saying PC's are better, I'm saying Leopard sucks equally as much as everything else!
Remember, I support Mac! I have money in the Mac world (seriously) but I'm giving it the size that it deserves, the 1% market that it owns :)
It's cute, it's pretty and it's nice and shiny. But is it a real business oriented tool? not in the corporate world it isn't

Macbook is the hardware NOT the software. It's apples and oranges here.
Macbook can be compared with Dell, Toshiba, and other hardware manufacturers.
While Leopard is an OS or software that can be compared to Vista (maybe leopard is faster but it's certainly less secure and hinders people like me from doing their work)
The fact that something like Adobe works faster on one platform and not the other is pretty bogus. Because it's the compiler's fault in this case. And everyone in the world knows that Apple compilers are crap! So why really does it run faster when it's running on the same hardware and is done by the same company? That's a major unknown and requires someone to dedicate some research time. I wish I had that kind of time. But I don't
At the end of the day, your experience (or mileage) will vary. I used Mac's since the 1980's all the way till now. And find them extremely limiting to the kind of work that I do.
But hey, I support Mac, they're part of my business too! The 1% that are out there with the shiny pretty little toys an some $$$ are my customers.. I love them too :)

Last, give up sam, not everything else than microsoft products sucks look at this page for example, you are the only guy so far that uses IE, everybody has made the switch to another web browser because they realized that there are other good developers out there, and soon they will make the switch in the OS. (hopefully to the Mac os x, if not the google os)

Firefox has it's flaws as well. For example. A few days ago I was trying to play around with an Effect. IE worked flawlessly. FF sucked big time. Was it IE's fault? No, It was firefox's strict adherence to the W3C GUIDELINES
Fact is, IE and FF have issues. Who's going to resolve them first? That's the question! For me, I haven't found anything in FF to make me change *yet* but that can change
I have no loyalty to an inferior product. Understand that! And so far.. Both are the same, with IE7 appearing a tad better!
By the way, Same apply to Javascript implementation. IE did it first, faster and better.
Just realize that I'm not one of the people who run after hypes. I monitor the hypes, analyze them, and project where they're heading. But don't allow myself to get involved.
Firefox 3.0 'Gran Paradiso' is comming out late this year, hopefully it will make you change ^^

Actually looking at the history os MS and current products, never buy a MS product except 2 years later. How many Red Rings of Death were there on the 360? I personally know 5 out of 6. Wheras as SONY had 0.02% failure percentage in their PS3. Same story with VISTA. Wait the service pack (#2 ofcourse!) then buy.
I Heart MSFT.. BTW steve jobs almost brought down apple the last time he was the president, so I am waiting for his killer mistake..

You're right in the points you stated, however, the sales of XBOX360 is at least 20x that of PSIII. And it's a lot more fun. PSIII graphics are not up to par with 360 and here's the most important part: From a developer point of view XBOX is MUCH EASIER to develop for. It provide the developer with everything he needs and makes his life easier. That's why unless the game is exclusive to Nintendo, or PS, there's ALWAYS an XBOX edition.
As for the red ring, sure, hardware failures happen, and since these fall under Warranty items. I trust a company like Microsoft WILL replace it, no questions asked!
But I agree with you, SP1 is always better, SP2 is even better. Have you noticed that the Server versions always ship at SP1 time? (And windows servers usually have MUCH better reliability than client releases)

Didn't help much, whenver I install XP-SP2, if I don't disable the network while I apply all the patches, I get attacked and infected instantly. I can't wait for SP3 to come out so that I can integrate it into my installation cd.
Now, have you tried to turn on the firewall before installing XPSP2?
So I settle for always disabling SMTP port since I send all my mail from web anyway, and its too easy to get some trojan that will get your IP blacklisted for sending spam.
There are plenty of well-known ports that are recommended to be blocked. SMTP is not really a threat on your machine
Did you know that the sites that keep the blacklists on the net, actually offer to remove you from the blacklist if you pay them ? Either that or you wait 2 weeks.

True. The reason is the shared memory architecture the 360 uses it gives the designers space to load high res textures. Yet, the animation and character design of the PS3 is way better.

That is very true, I agree. But from Electronics Engineering point of view, the cell processor is soo damn powerful that it is the reference for processors. We say "is this processor better than cell? or worse?" So that means nothing but the PS3 will have an explosion in performance in the upcoming years.

PS2 was less powerful than XBOX, and yet PS2 won the race ONLY coz they have a huge gaming base. MS should depend on that if they want their 360 to win in the upcoming 3 years.
I am sick of ppl saying how great Mac's are and how great their security is... um, Mac's dont get viruses because even hackers don't care about Mac's and thus they dont spend the time writing viruses that attack Mac's (altho I wish a few would just to prove cocky Mac users wrong).
Bs yea, Mac's suck... but then again, Windows does too.. but Mac's suck ALOT more!
Let me compare apples to apples
XboxElite and PSIII. I wanted to buy an XBOX and had to drive 150 miles to find a place that is not sold out.
Hardware is not that important, cell is good, Cell2 will probably be better. As you have said in PS2 vs Xbox it's not technical superiority, its game titles that win the end game
Microsoft has gone the extra mile to help software developers because, well, that's the forte right? It's only natural that they win in that arena.
Anyway, I am still disappointed with graphics of PS3 (and that's even with my untrained eyes)
If I was Sony, I would drop the prices right now. Make the PS3 sell for $100. But again, that price war will probably be matched By Microsoft. The money will be back in the software titles and not the consoles. Just like the cell phone industry where the money is in the contracts NOT the phones themselves. (another arena where Sony is losing big time)
Personally, it's Sony's arrogance and inaccessibility that is causing this. Especially their position on rights management.
