Amman City... Now has a blog!

Yep! You heard it right! Amman the capital of Jordan has it's own blog! (being managed by the Greater Amman Minucipality) and being hosted by Jeeran.

This is of course unprecedented in the region. I haven't heard of any other city having it's own blog. I haven't even come across a blog for any major city in the world.

Amman City Blog will be the communication bridge between the city and its citizens. The blog comments will be the common language between the citizens and Greater Amman Municipality's Mayor Omar Al Maani whom will be actively following and participating in the blog.

Said Omar Kudsi, one of the founders of Jeeran in a public correspondence that was delivered by email. Ironically, the founder of Jeeran (alegedly the Arab world's largest blog community) doesn't have a personal blog :)

In my humble personal opinion, I think greater bodies like governments and ministries, municipalities and corporations shouldn't really have blogs but rather an Internet presence. Blogs need to remain individualistic and personal in nature. But who cares?

Amman, our city now has a personality, and her own blog. She will undoubtedly be very popular and get engaged soon :)

As I said before, female bloggers get more traffic and comments, and eventually get married faster :)

This is kind of wired really, you don't usually find municipality blogs online, but I guess they are doing the right thing.

Thank you Samer for highlighting this in your blog!

We have encouraged Amman municipality to take this step in order to be closer to Amman citizens and to have more communication with them.
As citizens, it really feels great to be frequently updated with the new news and projects of our capital.

We hope this blog will encourage other countries in the Arab world to take this step and to create such a bridge between their capitals and citizens.

We wish Amman municipality a great luck with its blog.
