While I was chatting with my friend today at around 5:30P.M. she told me that she was hungry and hadn’t had anything to eat all day and that there wasn’t any food at home (she lives alone with her sister). So I told her to come over and have lasagna, but she said she didn’t like it. Then I told her that I was planning on making cookies (Kinzi’s sugar cookies as a matter of fact) and she got so excited. I told her to come over and have some. She said she’d come over in half an hour so I ran downstairs to make the cookies.

    Cace remains

I have been wanting to make these cookies ever since I got the recipe from Kinzi's blog, but for some reason something always gets in the way. I tried to make them a few days ago but I couldn't find baking soda. Anyway, I got everything out and started mixing the ingredients together. You have to make two separate mixtures and then add them together. I had finished the first mixture and was almost done with the second one when I realized that we had run out of flour!! I was like "Oh no! Mshan Allah la2!!" anyway I fixed that (don't ask how lol) but then I realized that the cookie dough has to be refrigerated for a couple of hours. I didn't have that much time since she was probably already on the way by then, so I decided to bake a cake to serve my friend instead of the cookies.

My friend arrived before I could bake the cake and I explained to her what had happened and she didn't mind having cake instead. She was hungry and would settle for anything! So I made her a sandwich to eat until I finished baking the cake. I made the cake and put it in the oven. I set the oven timer for 45 minutes and we went upstairs to sit in my room. 45 minutes later we went down to the kitchen to check on the cake and to my surprise it wasn't done yet! It's not the first time I bake a cake so I could tell that something was wrong. After 45 minutes the cake should have been fully baked and reaching to the rim of the pan, yet for some reason the pan was only half full. That's when I realized that we had run out of gas for the oven!!! Unbelievable! The poor girl had in mind that she'd get some cookies or cake and nothing was going as planned! Can you believe it?! What are the odds?! I can't believe how unlucky today was. And it really sucks when things you bake go wrong! I had my mom change the gas and the cake is baking as I type. I hope it turns out alright. Bad news is that my friend had to leave because she had a friend coming over. Worst of all is that her sister was expecting her to bring her back some cookies. Poor thing. I really feel bad. Her sister always makes me fettuccine (she knows I love it). Maybe I'll send them some tomorrow if the cookies and cake turn out alright.

The cookie dough has been in the fridge for almost 2 hours. So I'm gonna go bake them soon. Inshallah they'll turn out good. Wish me luck!

Oh, I made these cookies like two or three weeks ago and I have posted a video of the procedure, it was fun.

but I mixed up between t and T, one of them was table spoon the other was teaspoon but it didn't taste different, at least no body noticed it :P

Take a photo of your cookies when they are ready, so we see who is better at baking me or you :P
You win Nizar! Today was for trial and error. They'll be better next time inshallah. I ran out of flour so I also put brown flour into the mixture and I'm sure that's what spoiled the taste. They're not bad, just taste a little weird. You can't really taste any sugar in the cookies lol and i blame the brown flour. So in the other batches i put chocolate chips on the cookies to make them sweeter. They're alright, but hopefully they'll turn out better next time inshallah. As for the cake, it was perfect :D I'll take a picture of that if you want
Oh and I did see ur video. It's what encouraged me to try and make them :) Good job by the way!
It's a bad idea to try a recipe for the first time when you have guests over, but hey what are friends for if they don't forgive and forget.

You have no idea how many times this happen with me..Am good at baking and have successfull resutls..but most of the times if am baking for a visitor I fail to deliver good results..I don't know why ??
Last time I invited a friend over, while I was mixing the cake I kept on repeating to myself"this cake is for me and not for a friend" loool

Good luck to you next time..
lol.. yea, im with sam, i dont bake unless its a really easy recipe that even i cant mess up. Plus, i practice it several times on hubby before I serve it to anyone...hehe. It doesn't help that I HATE measuring stuff out.. so I end up putting in a "handful" or a "spill" of stuff and the "practicing" is for me to figure out if im throwing in the right stuff or if I need a "handfull and a pinch or two" :P but it works so so what!!
btw, the cake looks delicious!!! sa7teen :D
tinkerbella: I actually enjoy baking things, especially sweets. I have to have everything done right. I can't just spill stuff in lol. Poor hubby of yours. And 3ala albik! That's all that was left of the cake by the time I took the picture :)
Well, as much as this attempt went heads up, I'm still pretty impressed. I've been living alone for a few years now and have only just reached the 'frying' phase after being caught in the 'microwave' phase since the beginning. Anything more advanced (like baking) is WAY too daunting right now...
Pigeon, Baking is not that hard. You can only learn by practicing and you have to start some time especially since you live alone. Yalla soon you'll be moving to the "baking" phase and you'll let me know all about it :)
Oh and welcome to my blog Pigeon or shall I call you Frank?

Hi Deemco! Bless you, brown flour definitely does NOT work for those cookies. But I say good on you for experimenting with alternatives...it is that freedom that leads to baking discovery and your own style in teh kitchen.
Thanks Kinzi, I  love experimenting in the kitchen. I recently discovered that you have more recipes on your blog and I plan on trying some of them soon, especially the S'more brownies.. yummmyyyyy :)

Deemco, you will find I am not the greatest in the kitchen (Summer is Kitchen Queen)but if anything is tasty with LITTLE effort, that's my specialty! The S'More brownies are original and yummy, that recipe gets more hits than even the Snake Baby story!
