    Observer from elevation

I've been getting greeting's messages from a lot of people abroad congratulating me of eid since yesterday...and Eid in egypt will be saturday.... :(
    ya3ni kolo 3ayed ela ana!
If we want unity, then we have to respect the scientific calulations instead of eye-witness accounts for the very reason you mentioned. Person X in city Y may see the moon, person Y in the same city may not. Unfortunately astronomy wasn't so advanced at the time of the prophet (copernicus came about 1000 years later), so we don't have any indisputable hadith about it which means kul wahed Yifti min 3ando !

All muslim countries should follow saudi arabia Period.

I know I'm so upset:(  My community actually went by scientific calculation to determine that eid for us is saturday and not friday; however those calculations only go so far because they don't define when eid should be they only tell you locations and times with respect to a reference point, thus the community must come up with the judging criteria and they've decided that if the "moonset" is before the "sunset" then that qualifies the next day to be Eid (I'm sure they have a very logical explanation for that chosen criteria,I just don't know what it is, never asked and don't care really, the big picture is enough).

    for especially Hani,
Apparently in our exact city's location on Thursday the "moonset" is a good 33 minutes after the "sunset" and thus this doesn't qualify eid to be on friday, so it's saturday.  Back in the days of the rasool PBUH the ummah was confined to a geographical area and thus these weren't issues to be dealt with.  Since Muslims span the spherical rotating globe we've had to come up with more specific judging criteria and like I said, scientific calculation alone isn't sufficient because that's only giving you numbers, we have to decide what to do with those numbers.  There are numerous methods now and most scholars can agree that niether of them are incorrect as long as they're allowed interpretations within islam.

I think people should just follow their local comumunity and trust the judgement of the local masjid committee and non of this is worth getting angry over.  If people's intentions are "political purposes" than obviously that's a different issue but I doubt that.

It's a hopeless case qwaider and not worth getting yourself upset over it..Lybia celebrated yesterday Thursday..Lebanon today and syria tomorrow.. The mosque here in Tampa said Friday is eid,I call a friend who live 2 hours away, she told me their mosque didn't see the moon and still fasting!!

Have a happy eid regardless :)
I fast with albelad wa bw5ayed ma3 al blad end of it.

I think you should be happy for fasting 30 days while other did fast 29 days.you will be rewarded from allah more than us by following scholars in your community becasue they know better than us about religion.

we have understand understand something, our islamic traditions are important and have to be respected. There are alot of things in islam might not make sense if we use our brain ,sometime we should follow our hearts ot souls to lead us for right way.

Now you are position to judge on this matter by your soul.if you feel happiness inside yourslef by doing it , you should do it .
    I laughed and laughed!!

Too sad.  Too funny.  I guess we were absent the day they gave out the common sense gene!  It's like we're in a time warp cursed bubble that has been oxygen starved for way too long.

Also....I think the grinch stole Ramadan!
