I can't believe this but this is post number One thousand and one! It has been an amazing thousand so far! I guess it's time for me to thank each and ever one of you. My fantastic readers. For everything. One thousand and one articles, with 11 times as much comments, and 150,000 times the number of individual hits. Oh my god!
Frankly, I'm so humbled by your amazing kindness, my wonderful readers. As you kept coming back, day after day. And made this place worth coming back to. And what it is now.
I should also thank the wonderful co-authors of memories documented who have assisted and contributed generously to the success of Memories documented. Red Rose, Hayati, and Deemco. You are all amazing and I thank you so much for your amazing talents and wonderful contributions
A little less than a year and a half ago. Memories Documented was born. It barely had anything in it. Just me, and my new engine. That wasn't Wordpress, Wasn't blogspot, wasn't Jeeran. It was something new. A new face. And a new engine. Many of course disproved, but I continued forward with this one hell of an Adventure
Friendships were forged, and enemies allied. I'm not going to say that I have too many enemies. But I have my fair share. I wish I had none!
So here's to one thousand and one articles
And now to my recent updates:
First, I've added a new caching feature for Gravatar (because it was seriously bringing this site to it's knees and making everything so slow) So I started caching the little Gravatar icons to boost the performance. Even if Gravatar is down. Your images will not be affected.
And Then I decided to add something called Identicons, but decided to base it on Email instead of IP. To keep it in sync with Gravatars. (It was originally made to function on IP Addresses), of course, it still obfuscates your emails as I consider your privecy one of my top priorities. And I try my best to protect my readers from Spam
I also added the Gravatar to the comment list on the side. And added a bunch of admin only enhancements that have been long overdue (recent visitors, what visitors are viewing, top commenters, and top visitors)
I also added interim saving for articles (so that they don't get lost or something, before that I could only Publish to save the article) And I added a "Spike" feature, which changes the publish date.
A while earlier I added server side caching to the site to cache many parts of the page and allow it to render quickly and more responsively. I think the results were plausible.
With that, I had the guts for the first time to show some statistical information about the site (because these used to take 2 seconds to generate for EACH HIT) so you can imagine how heavy these were. So cache actually reduces this to less than 10ms!
God I talk too much! :)
Memories....
