It's Wednesday, which means, first thing in the morning there will be two gorgeous looking early teen ladies passing by my door. it has been their routine for the past year or so. Every Wednesday morning, they show up, with a cheerful smile and sparkling eyes and pass by me. As we have agreed before..
They always show up on time, eager, enthusiastic, but they had one additional quality I didn't see anywhere I went in most Arab countries. They had pride in what they were doing.

There are hardly any culture that hates itself as much as Arabs hate their own culture. It's one thing to be ashamed of someone, or a practice. But to hate the whole culture that's over the top!
We all need to learn how to channel and focus our hate not only in a positive way but also place the blame on the person. Not everyone! Not the whole culture, not the whole society!

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to just hate women? Or hate men? Or hate the society? Or a religion? Or something that most people don't hate? Well, if you really can't put your finger on it, rest assured it's a sign of some very disturbing previous experiences.
Some are not even aware of it on the conscious level. While others know EXCATLY what it is and can speak volumes of their hatred and the exact reasons for it.

I vividly remember one of the students back in the good old days of engineering school. He was the bottom of the class. Barely making it to the next class, and barely graduating with the lowest degrees in the history of the program. But he made it out.
I remember having long heart-to-heart peer encouragement talks with Mazen, to encourage him to work on his GPA and bring it up a little instead of barely graduating like he was doing.
He laughed, and said, "Getting an A doesn't mean you're going to be successful". In my arrogant moments during those times I brushed it off as nonsense. Actually, everyone did. From the second to last dude, all the way to the dean!
Mazen just moved into his new mansion in the heart of dair Ghbar.

Most observers agree that the Jordanian society is undergoing some major changes. Specifically in the past couple of years. The gears of change has been set in motion long time ago and are now apparently reaching critical tipping point were the face of society is going to be changed, perhaps forever.
Call it modernity, call it revolution, one thing is certain with an abundance of evidence, the pace of this shift is increasing and it will not be much longer before the situation explodes. These warning signs are very evident, they're raising the alarms, they indicate that it might already be too late, and the whole nation needs to step up, and think long and hard about the tough futuristic decisions.

I decided that I'm going to advocate for all the women issues that I see women in my country suffer from. I'm not going to get into non-issues, but rest assured, I will try to tackle every one of these issues as best as I can, leaving an open forum to anyone who would like to add their part.
We talked about harassment and woman's right to feel safe in the workplace. But that wasn't specific to women, this issue however IS very specific and highlights one of the inequalities Jordanian and Arab women face in general. Their rights as citizens.

This is not the first time I talk about sexual harassment at the work place, last time, it was mainly directed to the Arab businesses. But this time, it actually hit much closer here, in a nearby office.
I realized the issue is really hard to deal with for a lady. Especially a decent one, trying very hard to make a living, establish a career and get ahead in her life.
