On twitter followers...

Does the total number of followers even mean something or another? Does it mean that you're a better or more esteemed "Tweep?"

Sadly, and shockingly, I just received an email from an "entity" that will remain anonymous... Boasting that number on my face

I had to look and see who these thousands upon thousands were... For an English service with a face could barely spell, let alone write proper English or provide clear punctuation, I just couldn't help but dig!

In the few pages I flipped through, not a single "decent" name or even someone who would be interested in such a Tweep!

My conclusion, looks like we have another "Myspace" competition on our hands! With twitter being it's champion.

Here's how you can get 2000 followers in a week. Check http://twitter.com/QueenRania, send a mention to every single one of the million or so saying something ridiculous but nice about them... If only 0.5% decided to follow you, you will end up with.... 5,000 followers.

What a load of bologna, consider this you best way to increase the electronic clutter with social media barnacles

Yep, that's exactly why I deleted my twitter account, partly bacause I wasn't too cool to keep telling people about my daily "triumphs", and partly because I wasn't interested in knowing strangers' daily "triumphs".

Don't you have your own twitter thingy? you should call it Qwider, and a tweet should be a Qweek, but not a Qweer.

Yes, signing up for Twitter is like volunteering to be electronically stalked. It's kind of creepy. And I don't follow other people because I really don't care.

HAHAHA ... that is funny!
The thing about twitter is that it reached critical mass, and that means it follows a different set of group dynamics altogether. The thing is that once you hit a million user or so, the service becomes self sustaining. Other services providing the very same futures, don't even stand a remote chance of succeeding in such conditions. Just look at Watwet. The guys had something cool, but why would people go there? It's not as discrete as say, websites and blogs.
