The thing about twitter is that it reached critical mass, and that means it follows a different set of group dynamics altogether. The thing is that once you hit a million user or so, the service becomes self sustaining. Other services providing the very same futures, don't even stand a remote chance of succeeding in such conditions. Just look at Watwet. The guys had something cool, but why would people go there? It's not as discrete as say, websites and blogs.
